Supposedly they had been planning this for months. If they were clever and had someone they could trust, they would have their friend drive the obvious car she bought to Tennessee as a red herring while they went the opposite direction in, as someone else suggested, a nondescript vehicle bought in a private sale and never re-registered, well stocked with gas and food so there was no need to stop at a convenience store where there would be cameras inside (paying cash) and no credit card trail if paying at the pump.
You can make it to the Mexico border in 15 hours or less.
