The sales tax would tax anyone that purchased at retail in SR county. We are still paying 7% sales tax and not the 7.5% that the BOCC wanted. Most of it goes to the state. My 2 cents.. it pisses me off when they let people who dont own $hit vote on property taxes. Property owners should be allowed to vote ONLY and dont even mention "school taxes".
Just wondering . . . . how did a vote this lopsided ever become worthy of a taxpayer funded vote in the first place ?? (1/3rd -- 2/3rds)
All those "VOTE YES" commercials that were on prime time cost somebody something.
AND . . . the vote itself. How much did that cost the taxpayers ??
Watch out guys. Santa Rosa is becoming as crooked as Escambia. ---- SAWMAN
They want to spend a lot of on projects to build up and develop SR County. There is talk of bringing in a YMCA with financial support from the county and I am sure that they have a good buddy builder that with county funds will be ever so happy to build. With all the extra people buying and paying sales tax and the huge influx of property developed in the county, where is all the new, extra money so-to-speak, going? Seems there would be plenty without extra taxes but I'm not a financial specialist.
As of August the PAC, Moving Santa Rosa Forward, had amassed nearly $300K to "put out public information " i.e. buy the election. That was reported in the initial PNJ article. Then the slimy BOCC agrees to spend $200K of our money to have a special election to put the vote to the voters. Never mind if they had waited for another election it would have cost them nothing. You don't think that a new FL stature that goes into effect in 2020 that requires 66% of voters to approve such an increase had anything to do with their decision? Hmmmm, it takes 51% today, however, it will take 66% next year! What's a measly $200K when it's the voters money. I wonder what that $200K could have bought in terms of something that is really needed.
Vote out every one of the current, slimy, bought and paid for commissioners next election.
Hey I’m sending a private message because I don’t feel like the 500 other comments from everyone else lol. My friend met with people weeks ago so she could be more educated with her vote. They told her the plan was if approved (penny tax) they would begin widening woodbine road within the next 12 months. We were also going to get a YMCA. Those are just some things in our area that my friend was told by the county administrator.
Also the tax as nothing to do with new schools. They are planing to build a new school at 5 points. The state of Florida dictates who can build schools and when. They said we still have room in our area, which is why they re zoned people for this school year and will most likely do it again next year. They have to show we have no more room before they approve for our area to add a new public school. Plus that money comes from a completely different entity.

But no money for new school room space that is just about maxed out. They want to make it look good for future buyers with nice parks and community centers.
Something wrong with the YMCA Navarre already has?

I just want to be sure everyone knows there is a BOCC Meeting tomorrow morning (Thursday, Oct. 10, 2019) at 8:00 am. Impact Fees are on the Agenda. The meetings are open to the public.
New claims or is it misinformation:
I can only assume as misinformation. To the best of what I know there has only been talk of what the extra revenues might be used for. In fact, the signs that listed everything that the additional sales tax increase could be used for was only a list that attempted to get anyone that had a pet interest to vote for the tax. The ploy didn't work with 67% of the voters!
I saw in the PNJ today that the BOCC is going to investigate impact fees. Quote from Sam Parker say that the voters sent a clear message in the vote that we want impact fees. Also quoted were several voters that blistered the BOCC saying that they were not listening to voters but instead listening to developers instead through the developers campaign contributions. I believe that the BOCC members that will be up for re-election are shaking in their boots. Rightfully so. too. Let's do a complete replacement of the BOCC. May-be starting from scratch will take the county in a direction that the voters want it to go instead of the special interests. Realistically, people with good intentions will ultimately become politicians and we will be ultimately be left in the same situation. A politician becomes a career politician, takes campaign contributions from special interest, and ultimately needs to be removed because of the undue influence.
