Initially for space there likely will not be much in the way of personal combat. Star wars type fighting for space stations between earth and other space stations can be handled with missiles and for outer space add lasers. For hand to hand perhaps there is a place for Toledo and Damascus steel made edge weapons. The main thing just under Arctic conditions many steels will become brittle and fail. There are cold resistant steels, but outer space is a lot colder. But we do have space vehicles out there and so there are likely steels for weapons that will stand up to the extreme cold, but it still needs to be considered.The firearm was a Russian TP-82. How about upgrading old tech for Space? Recoilless Rifles (rifled), Recoilless Guns (smooth bore) and Recoilless Launchers have been around for decades. Surely the concept in Space woud mitigate the majority of recoil but would needs a clear back blast area. We have bolt buffers and recoiling barrel actions, why not whole "rifle mass" buffers or reverse force directional device (spring, elastic or hydraulic).

Where I see combat would be if space travel ever becomes economically more feasible. There is great mineral wealth out there for example in the asteroid belts. I could see private mining groups fighting over such. The smart thing would be to redirect small asteroids to crash into the ocean or Antarctica for recovery.

I bet that 9mm pistol was only a 9mm makarov that is a little small for bear, tiger, or upset moose. Better choice, A tokarev pistol in 7.62x25 while small bore would have the penetration needed to kill just about anything that lives in the north when it finally bled out.Not exactly, though the article gives a clue:
