I have the TWS top cover with machined in rail and it is rock solid. Have a PA 3x micro prism mounted to it

I as well. I love it. It lowers the optic height over the side mount rail. I want to put the PA GLX 2x microprism on it. It’s going for $277 on PA website.

That’s why I recommend the Gen III. I don’t think you can get the II anymore.
Yes I guess you can break it. But I want to see it fail while locked in place. But triple thickness at that point of failure would have helped. I wounder if the original Side mount would survived that also. I just do not see the ultimak that I bolted with u bolts to my barrel fail.

Stuff bolted, clamped to the barrel can affect accuracy. Daezee just posted the other day on trouble he was having with barrel bands doing this. So it's a real thing. Also heavy breaks, flash hider can do it too on any rifle.

IMO side rail is the only way to go - QD mounts that hold zero all day. RS Regulate and Master Mount are the best side mounts in my experience. Get some nice Russian or Polish wood on that WASR @Rebel_Rider1969 ! Nice purchase.

Thanks. Got a line on a red wood set that I think will be cool. I'll look around and watch the classifieds for a good side mount. I have a side mount that I can play with till then.

What is bolted to a barrel does affect accuracy. Sometime for the better. My mak 90 seemed to shoot better. It is common to put a truss on some of the early Mini14s to improve accuracy.

For mini 14 accuracy: i do not know if it works. We are not talking sob moa and where 4 moa would be a big improvement.

    Couldnt help myself...
Well just for fun I'm gonna play with the cover/optic mount. This thing is tighter than dicks hatband, need to file off a bit on the cover so the safety will go all the way up. TRS-25 AK Optic.(made for it) I figured i already have this stuff so why not.
Cover lip haa a very small u in the top of it, goes into the normal spot but has a steel lip that goes over the sight base. Two adjustment screws on the cover, rear takedown button to raise it/ adjust tension. It's rock solid. I bet I could drop it and it would not move.
Added mag release cover. Pushing forward drops the mag.
*** no freaking bayonet lug, dang it. Looks like they ground it off. I missed this on my pre purchase inspection. Dang. Also no cleaning rod? Really? In bulk they are like 5$

Anybody see a red hand grip anywhere let me know!!!

    *UPDATED PICS*

Exactly... it can be a crap-shoot, so you just have to experiment. Weight on the barrel doesn't necessarily harm accuracy, it affects it... and the effect can be positive.

I tried a heavy Cobray megaphone (wish I had weighed it before loctiteing) on my Mini (Model 5888)... on, off, on, off, on, off... invariably tightened the groups with every kind of ammo I had (though it did lower the POI a bit), so it stays on now. Note that this Mini was bought specifically to fill the "5.56 AK" type niche... I wasn't looking for a "snapper raffle" : )

This is what it does: First target pic (2-inch dot @100 yds.) has dime next to group of three Hornady Superformance Match 5.56 75 gr. BTHP, its favorite ammo so far. Two in one figure-8 hole (low/left) and the third at top left of the dime (.875" 3-shot group : ) These were the first three shots fired after a complete tear-down & cleaning, including R&R scope.

    M14_10-15_100a.JPG

Second target pic has dime moved to show third shot from the subsequent 3-shot group of bulk Federal .223 55 gr. So we now have four of six shots, with two extremes of ammo types, in the .875" group. I try to average my zero over the variety of ammo I have on hand for the rifle... since it's not a "match-queen", more of a "run watcha' brung"... and, viola! The average POI of the two 3-shot groups, with two extreme loads, is 1/4" from dead-center (small crosshair mark).

    M14_10-15_100b.JPG

As for higher round-count groups, a recent 100 yd., 10-shot group w/PMC Bronze .223 55 gr. (below), which I had sworn I wouldn't buy again due to previous crappy results, got 7/10 in the 2-inch dot (I counted the one touching the dot as "in"), with the 8th only 1/4" out, so, not too shabby even with the "crappy" stuff. Couldn't hit that dime to save my life, though! : )

And keep in mind: I'm blind as a bat (I use +4.00 readers w/scopes now!), using an LPVO set to 4x, only about halfway done with the trigger, and not a good shooter! Those two "flyers" are almost assuredly my fault. The rifle can do better!

Hey! But just think! It probably sounds like a .50 cal. downrange... only problem is, I haven't been able to convince anyone to go out there to confirm. ;)

Because their government loves and trusts them more.

I’ll never forgot when the war in Ukraine kicked off and the first thing they did was issue out AK74s by the crate. Told everyone and anyone in Kiev to grab one.

Because they did not ask permission and do not care. Now the Israelis are killing them.
