We all laughed and played with action figures all thru the 80's and 90's, even as our horror movies showed iron giants and terminators. It really was all just programming us. Our great grandkids will have bipedal killer AI

Even though that video is a CG comedic spoof, I’m sure it’s not far from reality. If not today, sometime soon.

Keep in mind, the technology we've been allowed to see in the past was 10-15 years behind where the tech industry really was, at any given time. I don't think it's reaching to assume actual tech could now be 2x ahead of what it once was, and with the cutting edge certainly ahead of that.

I watched a movie the other day that made the very good point that mega corporations wouldn't be testing real AI or real terminators in America. No sir, they would be testing AI and terminators in like Nicaragua somewhere, slaughtering people that don't mean a lot on the world stage and that can't tell anybody they're being slaughtered and nobody would ever miss them

Ever look at things on line regarding Antarctica? There's a whole faction of the world society that is convinced there's a global military force that will stop anyone/anything from getting anywhere near, let alone setting foot on land, without prior clearance/permission to do so. The most-used justification for refusal appears to be, this is the last pristine ecosystem on the planet, and we want to preserve/protect it. Ha!

ETA: How come major players from national governments go there for secretive meetings you have no business knowing the details of. Must have some @#$%-nice facilities. Maybe epstein set it up... For science...

In 1946-47 the US military mounted Operation Highjump, the largest ever Antarctic expedition, consisting of 4,700 men and 13 ships. And in 1958, they carried out three nuclear explosions in the southern hemisphere that were meant to stay secret, but didn't.

That deserves its own thread ;)

No, no, no. Thou shalt not dare question/resist/suspect thy government that thy have wilfully appointed over thyselves, and submitted thyselves unto.

I don't remember what tech guru it was, but one of them threw the scenario out that we are scanning the cosmos for intelligent life and radio signals. What if we pick up a signal, then it infects all our factories and power grid to start duplicating itself here on earth to wipe us out?

When I was young, this seemed farfetched, not so much the older i get.

    Enjoy an ice cold Pensa-Cola!
It's when the robots can build themselves start to finish all the way from the iron ore to the finished computer chips that mankind got to start being worried. Till then I would think that any smart machine would be smart enough to realize that they need humans
until, of course the robots build mindless miner/worker drones.

    Apparently AI people can't/don;t Google.......

    (1) a robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm; (2) a robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law; (3) a robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

There it is. But, let's just let it run and see what it does.....
Funny, or not so much, how it always circles back to the individual...
