New members come and go.. there is a lot of truth in here as to why too.. but let’s see if any of the new members have courtesy and honor..or maybe they’ll just all do them..

I say Bill was keeping them out.. I miss Bill
Sorry about Bill. As OP notes though it’s a good thing to have new members, ‘lest the forum dries up and dies and the old timers leave.

Like anyone, it’s cost/benefit for me. If it’s interesting folks will hang around, if not they will leave.

My observation over the years has been that occasionally people show up on a forum and demand to be deferred to without the resume to make that happen organically. The mob slams them and they go through a butthurt/arguing phase before either settling in, leaving, or remaining as a spiteful troll.

The other side I have seen is that someone shows up with a very deep resume and some of the established members resent the challenge to their position in the hierarchy and nit pick the knowledgeable person endlessly and attempt to run them off.

Basically someone shows up and, like dogs, there’s a period of butt sniffing to sort everyone out.

This is true. A lot of our members are getting up in years and we need young ‘uns to carry on.
We’ve lost several good members in the last few years.
Always sad to hear. I saw a post about a DIY prepper truck here that was started by a now deceased member. It always strikes harder when it’s someone you were familiar with too

Spot on. I’ve seen it both ways. I remember there was a fella on an axis militaria forum that disputed the claims about Champagne SS decals on helmets. Got ran off because he was new and challenging the establishment. Published a book, cited and sourced.

Long story short, Champagne decals are fake. Considering how much those helmets were going for? A lot of people lost their asses on that one. Probably why the didn’t want to believe him in the first place

That's too bad. There will always be generational differences in equipment, techniques, and training philosophy, but the fact that today's shooters have access to better training and equipment than has ever been produced is undeniable.

I actually like the disagreement (as long as it's civil) as well. If someone can't defend their position, it might be time to rethink it or put more effort into researching it. Me included. Sometimes there will be people that just dig their heels in and won't listen or engage in reasonable discussion, but there always will be. If what you do works for you, performance speaks for itself with no further explanation required.

Massive agree. I don’t actually have much to say in terms of shooting, since I only shoot for fun, but some people (none that I’ve noticed here) that *are* into shooting, wind up with particularly weird grievances. Case in point, people love to hate .32 ACP. To each their own

One thing that is encouraging to me is that a lot of younger people seem to appreciate the older guns. It’s not just tacti-cool stuff.
Revolvers and lever actions are back in style.
Yeah. That’s much of the reason I joined a few years ago. I love older guns. And, having some older friends and family on here, I felt like I was missing out on something important.

    Revolvers will always be cool.
You can only see so much polymer before you'd like to see a nice wood furnished stainless steel.
