So I currently use a .17 WSM or a .17 HMR. I have killed several yotes with the HMR and just a couple with the WSM, I just bought it a year or so ago.
I'm considering moving up to a longer range rifle. Looking at 22-250 and 6.5 Creedmoor.
I would like to stay at about 1k for the rifle and maybe 700 to 1k for the glass. Tikka or maybe Bergara.
Is the 6.5 too heavy for coyotes? I would appreciate any input. Oh and I do want a threaded barrel as this will eventually be suppressed.

As much as I hate to admit it, Rebel Ride is correct. 223 on an AR platform with good optics allows for rapid recovery of your sight picture. It is perfect for yotes.
    IMHO
I already have three of these. Just never used one on yotes. Was kinda looking at a bolt gun.

The bolt gun is great. It’s just that your second shot takes so damn long and you lose your sight picture (Unless you practice way too much and then it’s still too slow). Scope up one of your AR’s and sight it in. I believe you’ll be a happy camper. Let’s make hats out of a nice cape off a well fed yote!!!

    Not selling pelts right ??
Any chambering will do. Only a few shots taken so excessive recoil NOT A FACTOR. HOWEVEER - -> expense and tool up to reload could be.
Pick most any chambering <.308". And be sensible. No 25-06,6.5 X55,240WbyMag,etc,etc.
Smaller is better. Just not any 17's (wind drift).
Hand loaded 223Rem wold do. NO HEAVY BULLETS. 62GR MAX. 52-55's would be better. Losd them hot for the trajectory. Do the JBM CALCULATIONS (TRAJECTORY) thing. Tape your drop's to the buttstock.
I have a Bergara B14 and absolutely love it. The bbl son ... the bbl !!
Made multiple hits on multiple yotes with a 24" AR. Stay on the live ones and be prepared to give your best bark.
    Good Luck. --- SAWMAN

    Thank you sir!
I have a 6.5x55 Swedish that I had built from a Rem. 700 action I acquired in the 1970’s. Love that gun, great for deer and hogs, a little much for the yotes. I have been very successful with the .17 HMR inside 150 yds.

I agree with .223, although any modest caliber will do, backed up with a good 12ga for close range work. The 6.5 would give you a good deer caliber as well in case that buck of a lifetime happens to walk out at 500 yards while shooting coyotes.

Shooting Prarie dogs is another story! Be prepared to burn some ammo!

Already killed the buck of a lifetime. Don’t care anything about killing a deer anymore. I wouldn’t shoot one unless he attacked me.:) As for Prairie dogs, when we go to west Texas, the rancher supplies us with 22-250 rifles and ammo. It is a lot of fun. We hit them in the afternoons, after we have limited on quail. This year I am gonna target Coyotes out there. Some shots may be pretty long range.

So the next question is…..What glass to put on one of my AR 15 rifles?. Two just have iron sights and my third one has a Burris FastfireIII.

If you hand load you can use light weight bullets in the 6.5 Creedmore and be just fine. Then you could switch bullets and shoot larger game, targets etc, etc.
The 6.5 is more versatile than the 22-250 but either will be great for coyotes.

256 Winchester magnum shoots the same projectile as the old 25-20 It's just a lot hotter. The 2 cartridges laying on the Box is A 25-20 for comparison to the .256

These rifles come with the scope mount, Actually I think all universal are set up for scope ( Drilled and tapped on the side). I'm sure you could find one on eBay. Holly's pawn shop in Saraland Has A scope mount for the original M1 that replaces the back site

I've got a first year run National Ordnance (61-62 with 4 digit SN!). It used milsurp parts at first, till the supply died out. So mines not tapped. And she's Purdy the way she came. I hadn't seen that mount or calibers before. Nice collection! Thanks for making me pull her out, she needs a good wipe down!
