What happened with the side match?
Shotguns (especially pumps) are an absolutely horrible choice for a defensive weapon. Even when they work, they're slow and awkward to use. For the same size and weight, give me a carbine any day of the week. It was a real wake up call watching nearly everyone struggle with either equipment or manipulation. That long target was kinda fun though.
And yes, my shotgun doesn't like low brass. There, I said it. Lol.

A 12 gauge slug is no joke. Especially launching from a pump shotgun. It will make grown men curl up. Or flinch badly. Its a good door breacher though

The Israelis used to use a bolt action shotgun with slugs only out to 100 yards for perimeter defense - it was from a company probably now defunct called TarHunt which guaranteed minute of angle with certain slugs to 100 yards. Even if you're wearing armor, YOU'RE GOING DOWN if hit. I wish the cops in Los Angeles had used slugs on those two bank robbers with the modified AK-47's. Then they wouldn't have needed to borrow the AR's. You get hit with one ounce slugs, I don't care if you're armored, down you go, ripe for a coup de grace.

XDs only recoils upward about 2 feet when shot with the off hand. You do get to do alot of mag changes shooting one tho. Did have fun shooting it in a full match. Dito on how the pump guns worked out today . Every one who has one beside the bed at home should have been there today shooting one. Stick with the hand guns. They work alot better.

I really thought they would have worked out better because they sure work good for hunting and have proven themselfes in the field. Maby it is that DAMN BEAPER

Switching from birdshot to slugs and back again and then again, caused most of the malfunctions. I agree that in my case the pump 12 will not be a home defense weapon until I get much better with it. I also agree that a carbine is a better choice for me.

Snowbird you got some excellent hits off hand with that little hand cannon of a pistol.
