Selling my Ishapore Enfield .308. Will come with 7 full boxes of ammo. Has been verified to be safe to fire by the gunsmith on garden. Looking to sell for $700 with the ammo. Not looking for trades at this time. Located West Pensacola.
I've had a couple of these. They're nice to have in the more common 308 caliber, but you gotta be careful how you cycle it. If you run the bolt too fast at the wrong angle then you'll skip right over the 308 case and fail to feed, because it is not a rimmed case. The rimmed 303 case that this bolt and magazine were made for sticks up higher out the top of the magazine and actually feeds reliably. That being said, the Enfield was the fastest shooting bolt action to ever see combat, and not just because of the detachable 10 round mags. It has one of the fastest bolt throws ever. I think the only design I've ever had faster was the Swiss K31 straight pull bolt action with a 10 round detachable mag, but of course these Swiss rifles supposedly never saw combat, and nobody makes aftermarket mags for them like they do the Enfield. I saw some Enfield mags for sale at Ubers Lock and Gun in Pensacola, if I remember right. Also, you'll want to stick with a lighter powder load. Maybe the "Fusion" brand 308 for lighter, smaller whitetails that is lower recoil too. I got a hold of some imported NATO surplus that was either hot or maybe somehow over pressure and one day and 200 rounds later my 308 Enfield rifle blew a golf ball size chunk of wood off the stock, right at the wrist. I'm lucky I didn't get a face full or hand full of splinters. Not the highest quality wood, for sure.
I have not ever fired it, due to cost of ammo. I like to buy firearms with the intention to shoot them, but never do because ammo is worth its weight in gold right now. That being said, I can not speak for the previous owner(s) if they ever shot it or how much. The bore looks solid, and as stated was inspected by the nice guy at the "Gunsmith on Garden".
