Have any of you folks heard about this? I always wondered why nobody did a poly 1911. Kinda figured it was sacrilege or something. Saw it tonight though. Weighs 2.04lbs.. Whats a "normal" 1911 weigh?
Think it'll be worth it or is it just a gimmick?

I've only seen a view videos and pictures of it. There was a time when Rock River put out a really nice 1911. I have no opinion on their new offering good or bad.

I've seen ads for it in magazines for something like, 2 years..and never saw anything other than ads for them.

I just bought a new Colt Anniversary Tier III, a reproduction of the early WWI style of 1911. It weighs 2.25 lbs with an empty magazine. Forged steel frame and slide. 8 + 1 capacity.

My Springfield Armory Loaded Hi-Capacity weighs 2.50 lbs with an empty magazine. Forged steel double stack frame and slide. 14 + 1 capacity.

    Um... No.
Even an alloy framed one is pushing the envelope, even if I do prefer their balance, myself.

Yeah but you're a 1911 snob dan! Lol

I'm not a big fan of 1911's but I like them. If it functions correctly and was affordable (I'm guessing it won't be for me) maybe. I just don't see the sense in trying to make a full size 1911 lighter. It's not very cc friendly due to the size.

    Yes, I'll agree with that.

Actually, because the 1911 is slim, an alloy 5" gun in a leather holster on a good belt is really not bad at all. A mag pouch also helps it balance, just takes a while to strap it all on.

The length of the grip is what gets me on them. (Just a personal preference.)

Yep, I've always carried a full size pistol; started with 1911s and N-Frame M28 Smiths, then Glock 17s and 21SF; they aren't as easy as dropping a Ketec in the pocket, but they are a lot easier to shoot.
