I just picked up a really nice older Remington LH 700 BDL in .270Win. I have always been a 30.06,30-30,.308 etc kinda of guy. But could not pass up this deal on a new deer rifle. I went to BPS to get some ammo and all they had was two boxes of 130gr some buddys told me to shoot 150gr or higher that 130gr out of a .270 dont work as well. Any thoughts. Thanks!

All I shoot from my .270 is 130gr seirra BTSP. Even before I started reloading I shot Federal Premium 130gr seirra BTSP. I have had great success with it. I never have had to track a shot deer, most fall within 10-15 feet. I have been shooting that bullet for 15 years now.

I have heard many of these stories about 130gr bullets, but never experienced any issues with the Sierra btsp bullets. They always work, so I never tried any thing else.

I have shot deer with Federal Power Shok and Core-Lokts in 130, you put the bullet where it's supposed to go, the game go down. This ammo is less than $20 a box and is effective, if you do your part you'll be fine.

I have to say that it really depends on how your particular rifle likes it. May do well with light and may like heavier better. You just need to experiment and find out. GL

My best friend in MS shoots this very same rifle. He shoots a 100 grain bullet piping hot @ 3300 fps. Not sure which bullet, (barnes I think) but he made a 360 yd kill shot with that load on a 9pt. It crumpled where it was standing. Personally, I'd go with 120 grain moving a bit slower, but bullet choice is key

I had an older Remmy 700 ADL in .270 that loved the 130 grain bullets. It's just one of those things that you have to go to the range and shoot a variety of different ammo. See which one your gun likes and shoots best and stick with it. I reloaded some Sierra 130gr BTHP in Remington brass that my particular gun absolutely loved.
