excellent example of a BYF 43 Mauser P.38 issued to the Wehrmacht in 1943. It is all matching and has the proper "Eagle 135" military acceptance proofs throughout. There are also British proofs throughout and a "GERMAN" marking on the right side of the slide. It has retained about 98% of what I believe is its original finish. There isn't much actual wear, but there is some light scratching along the right side of the slide and a few tiny scratches on the barrel, front strap, and top plate. Comes with excellent bakelite grips and a period-correct Mauser magazine. Mint bore. De-cocker is functional.

The information I’ve found regarding the “Germany” mark was that it was required for exportation prior to 1968z
Only trade i would consider is a very nice Finnish M39 Mosin

The “German” stamp is most likely a stamp that was placed on the pistol when it was imported out of the UK. That’s all
I have on it.. I’ve seen Russian captures, but a “British capture” is unique

So basically somebody brought this back to the UK and that's how they kept tabs on it..interesting. Never seen that as well.

I have a byf 43 P38 also, was a bring back from someone in the US Navy at the time. All the same markings as this one minus the British stuff.

The UK had/has weird rules on firearms for the civilians.. they all needed to be British nitro proof tested. If you ever have seen a US contract savage Enfield, they were also nitro proof tested by the Brit’s even after the US did their own. Extra safety? Part of the story each and every firearm like this has.
