Leaning towards getting a 6.8 upper for my AR to hunt with. Any suggestions on brands? I'm eye balling the Stag Arms 7H upper right now for $595, but would like to know if there are any better deals out there.
I don't know of any better deals. It's got the SPC II chamber with 1 in 11 twist, which you want. The barrel is not threaded, so you can't attach a muzzle device.
If you decided to build one, I would recommend an ARP barrel. Bison and Black Hole Weaponry are supposed to be good as well.
I picked up a 16" Rock River SPCII midlength and I like it, it seems pretty accurate and I haven't had any issues, but I only have ~50 rounds through it.
The Stag 7H is as accurate as you can get w a budget 6.8 build, it is just heavy and long, the target crown actually makes it more accurate. If it will be a blind gun, you are good to go, if it is a spot and stalk gun you will want to go lighter. My first 6.8 was the 5H 16" and it was very accurate also. Good luck with your build
