I have an extra LR-308 receiver set. And I'm looking to add a caliber to the fold..... So NOT .308.

    What do yall recommend?
    Caliber choice?
    Barrel length.?
    Barrel Manufacturer?

I have 308 in various lengths. Don't really want to sell my aero enhanced ar10 builders set. Cause I'll probably never get back what I got in it. And besides, I like it.
I'm leaning 6.5, but I hear .243 has taken a lot of game, has low recoil, but unfamiliar with the ballistics of either.

Compare 6.5 creedmore to the 270! Very similar ballistics in a short action cartridge. 243 is a fine round but very limited bullet weights.

If you have no issues with getting it to function, a .243 would be unique.

.243 is a soft shooting necked down .308 that is very accurate! Ammo is available most everywhere including Walmart. I had a friend and co-worker in New Mexico who killed many mule deer and an Elk every year. He never had one get away. For most of the lower 48 the .243 is good to go!

If you're wanting to hunt with it, I'd go 7mm-08 with 20" barrel. Better ballistics than .243, flat shooting and I'd doubt you could tell the difference between the two on recoil.
If you just want to pop holes in paper or ring steel, I'd go 6.5cm with 20" barrel.

I'd be interested in a build parts list, and reliability reports. Do you have one?

What grain bullets are you pushing in that 7-08? It’s hard to overlook the case length of the Creedmoor cases when building a semi auto gas gun platform.
I could see the advantage on BC of the 7-08 but if we are talking 180 grain bullets the overall length will come into play for magazines. The .308 already does a great job in this weight range. I’d focus on 140 grainers for the 6.5 or 105’s for the 6mm. Keep it simple.

a 6.5 bullet generally has a better BC than most of the 7mms in the same weight class and higher.... doesn't it?
