OK, I haven't thought this through very much but would rather get a straight answer from you guys. I'll bet the answer is so obvious as to be dumb, but:

What's the big deal over hiding serial numbers when showing pics of guns or in sales ads? I think I might know the answer but ........

So what does it matter if your gun is legal, not stolen or whatever? I'm obviously being dense. PM answer if needed. I just want to know what I'm missing.

the obvious for me would be that if someone is mad you won't trade them or something they can call it in stolen or something. I wouldn't want anyone including LE to know the serials of anything I own. In hindsight choosing my real first name and everything probably wasnt the best choice either...is there do overs?

That is the main reason, I would think. Easy for someone to say it was stolen, and if you can't prove where you got it, it would be a mess.

Yeah, someone could cause a lot of heartache for you if you pissed them off and they reported a gun you legally bought through a another person stolen. They could say they bought the gun through another person and had it stolen and then discovered it being sold on a forum by you. This is why have a personal record of person to person sales is a good idea.
