This morning, one of my former DHS co-workers and I went to the Santa Rosa Shooting Center first thing. We have lived about three blocks from each other for nearly 15 years and this is the first time we did anything together. It was a wonderful time. These are some pics he took of me with his cellphone camera.

That is the whole key, knowing where to start. Also, where to find the parts. These days, it is getting harder and harder to build a nice retro. It is extremely hard to build a 100% correct retro. To build an A1 clone, you can start by buying a M16A1 kit from Sportsman Guide. (http://www.sportsmansguide.com/product/index/used-us-military-colt-m16a1-parts-kit?a=1143546) You then need to source the correct barrel (20" 1/12 twist). There is someone making them now. (http://www.gmriflebarrel.com/m16-a1-5-56mm-20-1-12-twist-20-barrel/) There is a company that now makes a barrel assembly. (http://shop.ar15sport.ihoststores.com/productinfo_v3.aspx?productid=BARREL-20LWT12) You will also need a correct A1 lower from Nodak Spud (NDS-16A1) and a semi-auto hammer, disconnector, and safety selector (or a modify the M16 safety selector). For assembly, you will have to have a competent gunsmith (Phil at Jay's) install the FSB because the barrel has to be notched for the taper pins. After that, it is assembly time. See, it is really simple.
