There has been a lot of Talk lately about getting a child their first gun( Other than a .22LR) And a good hunting Caliber that does not kick like a mule For us old guys that can't tolerate being beat up anymore. From what I understand the 300 blackout is a 221 Remington fireball

necked out to 30 caliber. The test gun was a Custom built AR with a 16 inch barrel Topped with a Four-power scope.

It totes well even on an Electric bike( And yes that is my dog on the other side but that is a subject for a different story) Accuracy was outstanding even with some of the cheap stuff. It shoots very flat with the 125 grain ,

only 2 inches difference between 25 yd and a 150 yd. To be fair to the gun the spread at a 150 and 200 yd I contribute more to the 4 power scope , it actually covered the Bullseye So there was some guess work involved. I think it would be great for deer inside 100 yd And Excellent for coyotes out to 200'. With only an 8 inch Drop when set at 100 yd.... This was the last 2 shots at 100 yd after a final adjustment.

    Very nice!

I was late to the party reference the .300 BO and I'm glad I finally got into the chambering. Albeit I only load/shoot subs, the right kind of bullet (Hornady Sub-X) is death on contact for hogs.

I do have some other 125gr and 110gr class bullets that someday I'll try my hand at with the BO reference faster loads suitable for HD and longer shots when hunting.

300 is made from a 223/556 shell casing.

Actually both cases are credited with being the "Parent Case".

    Specifications
    Parent case.221 Fireball/.223 Remington

Robert Silvers, director of research and development for AAC said, "We started development in 2009, but most of the work was done in 2010. A military customer wanted a way to be able to shoot .30-cal. bullets from an M4 platform while using normal bolts and magazines, and without losing the full 30-round capacity of standard magazines. They also wanted a source for ammunition made to their specs. We could not have just used .300-221 or .300 Whisper because Remington is a SAAMI company, and will only load ammunition that is a SAAMI-standard cartridge. We had to take the .300-221 wildcat concept, determine the final specs for it, and submit it to SAAMI. We did that, and called it the .300 AAC Blackout (.300 BLK).
