If you're heading to secure family land I'd pack accordingly. First preplan and have emergency food/ammo/guns/cookware/fire starters etc... buried on site in waterproof containers. Having the heavy bulky items already there...
Not exactly sure what you mean by tape over the front completely however; I'm not sure how adding something with adhesive to the mix will help keep it clean.
