Grandson turns 21 next birthday and I'm gonna give him a pistol. Personally I'm not a striker fired guy, but he might like them. I don't want to buy him a compact, I feel like a full size is more conducive for learning fundamentals. I learned the hard way about buying a nice pistol as a 1st for my son, much like buying your 16 year old a nice new 1st car.
So with all that, I'm down to either a Taurus G3 or a TH9. I want it to be new. They'll end up with my HKs, when they pry them from my dead cold hands, and I'm not dead yet, lol
Anyone have either? Looking at reviews they're reliable, and the only real complaints are the triggers aren't the greatest.

On the other hand, I have 2 Taurus pistols, and both have been completely trouble free since new.

I've had good luck with a couple of revolvers, I also had, I think it was a PT111 in 45, a friend talked me out of it, never had any issues.

I have had very good experiences with Taurus. 3 G2c, .357 mag, and a Rossi .357 lever action. Some have gone on to relatives, others are still with me.
    I would recommend.

spend a few more dollars and get a Glock 19... the small block Chevy of the gun world. super reliable, parts aren't spendy and readily available, tons of aftermarket kit, holsters and mags are everywhere.

I have a Taurus PT 92 that I got as a gift from my father when I turned 21. I’m now 40 and haven’t had any issues with it. He owned it for years before he gave it to me and I don’t recall any problems that he had with it.
That’s my only dealing with a Taurus so I’m not sure about any of their newer stuff

Appreciate the input guys! I think I'm trying to decide on hammer vs striker. Personally I prefer hammers, but I haven't heard as much about the TH9 as the G2 & G3. The TH10 is pretty intriguing as well!

For the price point, the G3 isn't a bad deal, trigger is about what you'd expect and the fit\finish is nice. With that said, for a bit more a G19 or M&P9c(2.0) are better and give a lot more options.

I'll bet it's a revolver, they had good luck on the revolver side, BUT I would never trust one of their semi auto's. although the 1911's and the beretta 92 clone seem to be on the plus side of the equation as far as I have seen,

For a first handgun I think that a double action revolver is the way to go! Once you get the basics especially safety down then move on to a semi auto if that's what you want. Just my .02 worth!
