Why has the 40S&W fallen out of favor as of late?

Yes, the 41 AE is obsolete now. You can make the brass by trimming the length and rim diameter of 10mm. The 41 AE can be loaded slightly hotter than the 40 S&W. I'm a neurosurgeon, and both GSW cases with the 40 were adjacent to the spine.

Why has the 40S&W fallen out of favor as of late?

I'm a surgeon, and I've removed 2 40 S&W bullets from 2 separate people: both hollowpoints that were perfectly expanded to about .60 inch. I measured the base myself (in the OR), and confirmed with cops afterwards that they were 40 S&W. I own 3 pistols in that caliber, my favorite being a...

      Gunsmith in Central Florida?

Okay, this turned into a huge PITA. I showed up with my rifle (per their instructions) and the guy behind the counter said: "Oh, no. We would never tell you bring your rifle here! We don't have a gunsmith." I spoke with Bruce at Rocky's Gun and Pawn in Eustis, who put me in touch with Howard...

      Gunsmith in Central Florida?

Thank you. Peterson's in Mount Dora has been there since I was a teenager. Here is the weird thing: they can't take in any gun repairs (not sure why). They said can look at my rifle and maybe fix it while I'm there. I'll probably stop in anyway, but I wasn't expecting that answer.

      Gunsmith in Central Florida?

I need some work done on my Browning BAR, and I'm in Orlando. Any recommendations? Thanks!

      Hot bluing for shotgun barrels-who?

I have 2 sets of barrels that I'd like to get hot blued. These are the old, soft soldered type (SXS) that have the drain holes in the rib for hot bluing (after bluing the rib area is rinsed out to prevent oxidation from loosening the solder). Anyone in Florida/panhandle region who does these...

      Polymer 80 for ccw?

I've made a few of these 80% Glock clones. The newest versions have an embedded metal plate to take engraving if you choose to put it there. As everyone has mentioned, it's not required by Federal law if you make it yourself, for yourself (California requires it be engraved with a serial no. and...

      Smallest T/P I.ve made

Wild Rider, Sorry to be so slow to answer; I missed your post. He did the testing for the army, and then also published the results in the Rifleman (NRA publication, about 1930 or so). I can't remember exactly how many rounds they fired per rifle (as I recall it was over 1,000), but the...

      Smallest T/P I.ve made

Townsend Whelan (of 35 Whelan fame) actually did experiments at his military armory on what barrel thickness was needed for structural integrity. With the rifles he was working with (30-06 caliber) he concluded that 1/16" thickness was enough for reliability and use. One of those useful tests...

      cerakote and mill work

Shag, Do you do ball mill work on slides? Serrations, but also the cosmetic relief designs along the side? Thanks, Garrett

      Franklin Armory Binary Firing System

My recommendation is to hold off on the Franklin unit. Fostech has the exact same thing coming to market in April/May, and they actually hold the patent for it (I'm not raising that as an issue, only that they've been working on this project for about 3 years). The problem with the Franklin...

Need gunsmith to shorten the rod and move the gas block on a piston AR-10

The barrel has no taper, so the gas block can be moved easily. The old gas port won't matter. Look up RAS-12. Garrett

Need gunsmith to shorten the rod and move the gas block on a piston AR-10

JJ, This was the firearm I sent you the PM about. I am doing this project because there is no other firearm made like what I am trying to build. This one will be a one off. Thanks, Garrett

Need gunsmith to shorten the rod and move the gas block on a piston AR-10

I have a piston operated AR-10 (DPMS pattern) that I want to modify. I need someone who can shorten the rod on the piston, and drill a new hole where the gas block will be moved to. Thanks in advance, Garrett
