Im looking at buying a shipping container to use as a storage unit while we move. Id like a 40' standard. I also want to have this container moved loaded to our new property in a coupel month about 30 minutes away.
Question 1: Does anyone have any recommendations for container distributors?
Question 2: Do you know of a company that will move the container 20-30 minutes?
    Thanks

Indeed. Just the part where they load them involves the container being tilted way up many times. You may want to look into getting some good load locks and learn how to use them really well, depending on what's being stored of course. That's the only thing I can think of that may be of any help. Other than that I'm gonna watch and learn as I may be buying one later on also. Goodluck

Yeah, FIL got one delivered - I wouldn't trust anything it it to not get jostled or broken by using it for moving.

Only reason they work on ships is they are loaded and unloaded with a crane and everything inside is professionally packed. The large majority are going to by unloaded / loaded via a tilting truck and winch. It's going to get tilted back / forth, pulled, bumped, you name it.

I see. I figured that but was hoping there was a company that had a side load truck. I may need to just look into another option. PODS are too small for us.

I mean their might be options for that kind of thing, but I believe most are the tilting truck kind of delivery and most people use them to 'store' stuff but not 'move'.

It may work fine. If it was me tho, I'd just make sure to load all the big heavy stuff to one end away from the door end. Then make sure they pick it up from the door end. That way let's say a heavy couch isn't trying to slide down and squish everything. Keep all the lighter stuff towards the door end. Then yeah carefully box what you don't won't broken, and use loadlocks. Then make sure the people who load it up pick up the end that loaded with the lightweight stuff.
They may even have some companies with robo arms that pick them up too. Not sure tho

Pods may be too small but multiples may be cheaper in the long-run. An overhead crane to lift a loaded container is mighty expensive and will damage terrain if you have nice grass. The pod folks got it down to a science.

Just a suggestion, although not as easy to access, but definitely easier to move and keep the load safe, an 18 wheeler trailer could probably be rented, I had planned to buy a shipping container for the same reason, a few days into clearing our land, I found an 18 wheeler trailer, someone had already removed the axles, which I found a week later, then a 25' camper another week later.

I bought an 8 ft one years ago at an auction on eglin. Hauled it with my dually flatbed. Man was it heavy!
Yeah, I’ve got 2 8’ military containers, love them! Steps on the sides, heavy duty removable roller trays, they are awesome! Got both for $1500 at a government auction, brought them back on a buddies 24” gooseneck flatbed. They were heavy as hell though, we blew two or 3 tires getting them home
