This may be the lightest. 22 rifle I've ever handled. Love the lightweight stuff. I need to weigh it.
** if any of you have a cheap small dot and will do pp and ship, let me know. Tks
Consider this Firefield product. It's a clone of my all time favorite Redfield light/laser combo, which has been out of production for like 5 years. It's the next one I'm going to do some product testing on if I ever get around to it. This design saves weight by using only one battery to power both the laser and the dot, and it saves space by using the battery compartment as the riser for proper eye position height. For a cheap low budget gadget, it's got a lot going for it. And so what if after all the abuse I'm going to do to it if it doesn't last more than a year or so... for the price I can buy four of these Firefield products for every one AimPoint

Then there's the compact Firefield light/laser combo, with the super small FOV glass and super tiny worthless amount of battery life battery. But hey it does the same thing and is only $70

The only downside to this is you have to slide the foregrip forward to remove, swap the cylinder. I wish I could weigh it because this has to be half the weight of a bolt or semi auto.
Been in contact with Salem lakes armory to add a short rail to the bottom of the foregrip also issue with the tube threads.
Good company btw, they are quick to ship AND answer their emails. Both pieces were $60. $64 shipped.

Added optic. Truglo Triton. R,G,B dot. The blue is really good for early morning.
Had this for several years, my shotgun optic. Pulled off my JTS 12ga.
Accuracy testing tomm. I'll look for something more spacy later.
** Recommended range to 0 for rabbits, squirrels? .22 lr for now, .22 mag later.

I have a whisker weld on my scout rifle too, using a large aperture forward mounted red dot. I don't have to tilt my head down or anything to get sight picture. I'm not in a bind, and I can look all the way around and maintain situational awareness and just happen to glance back on my red dot when needed. Very instinctual. I can wear whatever head gear I want to also... from ball caps to NVG monocular, from full face motorcycle helmets to gas masks. Hail to the whisker weld ;)

It is a service rifle, not a sniper rifle, so I'm not worried about pin point accuracy outside of 200 yards. Minute of Man, not Minute of Angle. No cheek weld required.

Tested and zeroed the dot. Chin weld. Accurate and big fun. Should be a great squirrel, rabbit, crow gun with 22 mag even bigger critters. May scope it later. 4x cause, batteries...
Some flicks felt from the cylinder gap without the vertical grip. Put grip on not an issue.
Stay tuned for critter zapping. Soon as deer season is over I'll be hunting with it. Probably sell the fiber optic sights off it, cant see em. Very pleased with the build, handy and ultra light. Ultra light and Spacy, what's not to love.

    Eat it! AFT!

We were issued black leather utility gloves and used them on the range on the support hand, for protection. At the time it was protection from heat and anti-slip on the handguard. Maybe try a pair of black leather uninsulated Harley gauntlets that cover a couple inches past your wrist, for protection from the splash
