Got that itchy D/A-S/A trigger finger again.......
Searching for inputs from .45 ACP aficionados; yet hoping not to draw the ire of S&W, 1911, or Glock fans.
So technically I've got an S&W 1911 & Glock 21SF both in perfect working order equipped with night sights and all the other tactical needs, yet my D/A-S/A itchy trigger finger doddles upon a newer .45 ACP D/A-S/A than my Old Duty S&W 645. Seeking advice from .45 ACP Sig Folks as to which version of the P220 .45 ACP is best worth purchasing??

Can anyone help save my credit card before I end with buyers remorse?????
    Thank Y'all in advance.

I have the P220 Legion and absolutely LOVE shooting this gun. It is smooth as butter for a .45 and the added ergonomics of the Legion makes it truly special. I'm really into "steel" stuff lately... I own lots of them, but after a while, you feel like all the polymer striker fired guns start to feel the same but with different brands on them. I like my S&W revolvers and my 1911's, but the P220 is in a different class with the way that sig designed it and with its features.

Like drlangley said, Legion is probably the best version if you're set on a P220. Any version is a nice gun IMO, I loved mine but traded it off in a moment of dumbness. There's also the P227 if you can track one down, they've been discontinued. Almost the same size as a P226 (barely bigger) with 10rds of .45 on tap.

If you're open to other options, there's always the HK45, USP45, CZ97 and the FNX-45T.

Well... I know this will ruffle some feathers but here goes...

A central Florida Sheriff's Office that shall go unnamed once issued the Sig P220 in .45ACP.

A group from said SO use to come up to North FL and train with me a couple times a year and all of their P220's were jam-o-matics rarely making it through a single 8-round mag w/o a problem. All of them. I say again, all of them.

After a few training visits over a course of about two years the problems were still there and they said their complaints fell on deaf ears. A couple years ago at a multi-jurisdictional SWAT school, the students from the same county exhibited the same problems... still using the same pistols

Their SWAT Team Commander said Sig's response was change mag springs yearly... that's not a solution. So... in my personal experience involving a few years of direct observation in various shooting classes my opinion is the Sig P220 in .45ACP is a POS... YMMV. The Sheriff's Office has since changed pistols.

Now... I'm not a Sig guy so the big question I have is there different versions of the P220 in .45ACP?

Very Honest and much appreciated. But that should get the ball rolling! Thanks.

Again, I don't know if the current production P220's are different or if you're looking for an older one. I know the Sig design had a stellar reputation, especially the 9mm pistols, but the ones the guys had were absolute junk.

I'll see if I can find out EXACTLY what model it was. We're talking within the last five/six years.

I will say this... I love my G41. If you're not opposed to a striker fire pistol that isn't sexy, she will treat you right.

I wanted a 10mm G40 but the G41 kept calling my name, so I got both.

Well, to give the Glock folks something to do, My G21SF has a serial beginning with KYW, since it doesn't fit the standard Glock month/year formula anyone got any idea of when and where it was made. Nothing to due with the thread, but it's the best Glock I have or have ever used. Yet with a 4.5 lb trigger, it doesn't scratch the itch on my D/A-S/A trigger finger.

I have and have owned several alloy and steel framed P220's and they are a righteous handgun for sure but... The all steel ST models are far nicer to shoot, so much so for me after owning an ST model, I wouldn't buy an alloy framed model again.

Pawn shop in Pensacola has a decent shape P220 for like $500. It's on Armslist and has been for a while... might could get a super deal on it.

Please share with the brethren. Pretty sure I want to take a look at it - if somebody else does not get it first

I have a Sig Legion 226 - Love everything about it but the SA/DA .
Granted its a 9mm so it wont fit your desire for 45, but I love the feel and function of it other than that one thing. :)

There’s just something about a good quality .45 in steel frame that is magical. I do have a Glock 30S with fiber optic sights I installed. I like shooting it very much and it feels good in the hand with the fatter Glock grip. However, from my experience, the Sig P220 I have is just a cut above… at least in my Legion model. I had a P220 elite that was great too, but I wouldn’t compare it with the Legion and the upgrades that come with it.

This is the pistol... he sent me a pic.

Said they switched to Sig P320's and soon are going to Glocks.... all that wasted time and money.

Am I reading right? All the P220 series even the Legion are alloy framed. Not finding a steel framed D/A-S/A ,45 ACP on the website. Now a 1911 alloy frame needs a buffer, not to sure I've heard of anyone using a buffer pad on a sig?

No, the P220 and P226 were available in stainless, also the original X5's are all stainless steel. AFAIK, the only way to get a steel framed Sig P series is used, or the P220 Hunter in 10mm.
