Got some goodies from another forum member to try on my Blackhawk. Never in my life have I wished my gun were blued instead of stainless until today. A set of herret shooting stars walnut grips would look damned sexy on a dark blued gun but aside from the feel, aren't served well on my shiny stainless model. The pachmeyer grips feel better than the hogue grips or factory wood. On a side note, the Herret's grips had a receipt in the box from 1974 for $14.95 which I found humorous. Those were expensive grips. That's like $85 in 2020 dollars

Again, not possible. I have no forward assist nor ejection port cover...
Drill that sucker full of holes, grind off the rail sections you're not using, get rid of the forward assist plunger and skeletonize the pistol grip and mag well and you'd have a sub 3 pound AR pistol. How sweet would that be?!

Unrealistic, already no forward assist or dust cover. Sub 3 lb AR? Really?

Been looking for a 6.8 spc barrel. Daezee just happened to have one collecting dust. It is a 10.5 inch, which I like for tree stand hunting. Deal was made. 617 rds thru it and you can't even tell. Looks new. Dazee takes very good care of his weapons.
Anyway, needed a 750 gas block and tube. Into the parts box. Found one. Needed a linear comp, back in the parts box, viola! Flaming Pig!! Used the bolt from my 224V and mag. Overzized latch tactical $hit ch. Should be gtg. Added other parts from box and a 1.5x4.5 nikon and ready to shoot. Looked everywhere for 6.8 ammo "0" to be found, Sawman hooked me up!! Also had a great visit with Sawman and Daezee

While visiting Sawman, he was picking my brain asking all sorts of bullet casting questions. Said he was given a piece of equipment 35 years ago that might have something to do with cast bullets. Would I look at it. Said there’s no name or other info on it to say who made it or what it is.

I instantly recognized it as a STAR bullet lube sizer and scraped off grime and old bullet lube to show him the maker and patent info plates attached to the base. A classic old style high end high volume bullet sizer. Used to be a family run business in San Diego. They closed and sold the making rights, and it’s still being made today and new parts work on the old machines. This one was set up for a 45acp semiwadcutter bullet, but other sizing dies and top punches are still being made to order.

He gave it to me with the stipulation it be used by me!!! Heck yes! I said I’ll take it and try to get it working, as I thought the internal lube pressure mechanism is broke. The current maker has a video on how to open it up. It wouldn’t budge. Ok, heat with hair dryer...maybe 35 years of old bullet lube is a solidified mess holding moving parts together. Heat did the job. Got several paper towels worth of old lube off/out of it. Still have more cleaning to do and may need to replace the seal that presses against the top of the lube column so lube under pressure doesn’t leak out.

Found a place with several sets of used STAR sizing dies and top punches at about 1/3rd the cost of new. Gotta see what I can use. For example, they have a .3107” sizer die. I use a Lyman .311” sizer for 308 caliber. I’ll measure some of my .311” sized bullets to see what they really come out as to see if .3107” is close. STAR made dies to exactly what you wanted and hand etched the size on the top of the die vs mass produced by Lyman, RCBS, Saeco, etc. $52 each vs $30 for mass produced.

Glad that after all these years someone can finally get some use outta it.
This was given to me by a friend and member of the NAS North Island ( San Diego) Naval Marksmanship Team.
He later went on,after retirement,to work as a civilian at the Small Arms Training Unit in Crane,Ind. He shot at Camp Perry for many years after that. ---- SAWMAN

Went and shot up 1k in ammo today!! ( almost!) Shot several of my project guns and guns that got new scopes. Shot my bride's 308. On target with new Bushnell scope. ( big thanks hunter01) She came out and shot for about an hour. Got a real kick out of hitting the gong @300 yards.
I then got the DPMS 308 Cannon out, hoo weee. What a rifle. Its more accurate than I am for sure gonna need a better trigger. It does not like steel case, primers would not trip. Best accuracy suprisingly was with Rem core lock 150gr. Tried several mags poly and steel 0 issues. Nikon p5 scope ( thanks wvaboy)
Shot "Thumper" 450 bushmaster 10.5... holy crap, like a mule that knows karate. 3x spitfire. 260gr fusion, rounds toch at 50yds. Very happy. Had some issues early on. Swapped out the h3 buffer and giselle 42 double coil spring. Used h1 and carbine spring from lightweight build, problem solved. Probably get a h2 for it. ( big thanks war-buff)
Folks I'm in love. Shot the 6.8spc 10.5 barrel with nikon p tac 1.5x4.5.( thanks Ray!)Used the h3 and double spring w/ pig brake. Smooth as silk. Rounds touching at 100. I thought i was missing the splatter target, usedv308cscope to look. This was with crap trigger. I may literally shit can the rest of the small AR's. 5.56,223W,224V,x39. ( well maybe not the x39) this is with the 10.5 barrel imagine a 16 or 20.... ( Big thanks to Sawman for the ammo and Daezee for the barrel, this must have been a real high quality barrel, WOW!)
Shot the nef 30-30 single. I got from Sawman put an old 4x scope on and zereoed for 50yds. This will be a loaner gun for guests or youngans. Right on the money.
Added a SeeAll optic on the lightweight frankenbuild ar. Took some fiddling but got it on target. 0 at 25. Hit the gong at 300 10-10. Kickass. Using " crap" steel case tula. Up to about 450 rds thru it with no cleaning, poly lower. Never missed a beat yet. 0 issues.
Put red dot on pmr30. Burris ff3 ( thanks g-rat!) The trigger is really good. On target! 2 cycling issues, mag loading on my part. Linear comp worked loose.( thanks Oldman) dillos better watch out!
    Whew!!!!

The cooler weather means the start of bullet casting season for me. Cast 395 393gr hollowbase bullets for my Danish rolling block today. That’s my slowest casting bullet done one at a time. All together, my goal is a total of 7,000 rifle bullets to be cast this season. Season ends with hot weather.
