Joined a 2nd hunting club. It's the one I and the wife really wanted to be in. Waited 7 years for a spot to open. Bucks 6pt and above only. Feed and plant all year. Plots/ lanes are huge. Most members "0" at 300. Looks like I'm going to have to practice more. We shouldn't have any trouble filling the freezer this year! Headed over to help plant chufula Friday in prep for turkey season. Already got the go ahead to shoot all the coyotes/Bobcats, feral cats and anything that's not a deer or Turkey. Looking forward to trying the game call. *** ah, crap now I'm gonna have to get a new rifle, lol most of mine are short range** (+150 yard guns) or too light in the azz. Dammit. Wife is set 700VTR .308.

Really digging that stock, nice. What's the weight on that? Lighter than an a2?
Dont know about lighter weight, havent handled a real a2 much. But the profile is growing on me fast. And the lop is right where I normally run a collapsable stock and this fixed stock is definitely more secure/rigid feeling. So the only thing I am really missing out on is collapsing the stock for transport/storage. But I can’t see it being that big of a deal

Tested and loaded old "out of service" metal AR mags. Not the best followers but all Passed but two with weak springs. Good enough to add some depth if SHTF. I WAS going to cycle them through Range work but: Bay County Gun Range is only open at to 50% capacity and LIMITS Shooters to ONE HOUR per their Web site. Nothing about a reduction on fee which was $10 for all day. It's not worth the trip IMHO.

Yeah, have brought some of my (really ??) retro GI 20's out of retirement just for this special ocassion.
What the front of these mags have witnessed in their long life would write chapters in history.
NOW. - - -> 12X20 here & there on my property, including the garage. People need to think about distributing their ammo/mags throughout their property. --- SAWMAN

Took my toys out to play. C308, Ct40 carbine, x39 side charger, 224V. Tried several flavors of ammo. Set the 3x,2.5x and 3x9 scopes.
If you are using red dots, throw them away. Get the etched prism types. I've been a fan of red dots for years, they work but the prisim types are 100% better, work's with no batteries. Better adjustment too.

Shot the .40 carbine for fun using the 9x scope. Shooting 165 gr win white box fmj also umc 180 gr. At 50 yards. Rounds touching. Very pleased. Ambi contols and forward charging.

X39 sidecharger. Lubed it up and shot the hell out of it. 3 primer hits that did not go off out of 140 rds. Those were bad rounds, not light strikes. Tried several brands of ammo, all fed and hit where they were supposed to. @50. My optic experiment worked. But to get it on target I had to adjust the 3x magnifier backwards. If i needed to go left i had to adjust it right. Bizarre. It can be set for longer range, 50 on 2.5 - flip the 3x on at 100.....ha! Love it when a plan comes together. Used 3 mags gi 20(5rds) dura and pro mag. ( mr fred mag on right:) No mag issues. Dura has a stronger spring. I did install 4oz buffer (spikes) ran fine, carbine spring, stock sig lower. Mag dumped to really see how it worked. Some cases actually had rust on them, no matter.

C308 greased it up per Sawmans suggestion, ran like a swiss watch. That will be the regiment from now on. Now if I can just count shots I'll be good. :) Set the 3x @100 on target 4 inch circle all day. Using wolf fmj for sighting then switched to 165 gr tula sp. Really good ammo. Glad cause I bought 1000 of em. I took the factory chevron brake off and put a birdcage on. Might need to look into something to tame some of the kick. Spent case showing flutes on chamber. A Battle Rifle made for steel ammo. Triggers really not bad.

The 224V what's to say, it's more accurate than I am. 0 at 200 now. 3 inch circle. Shot 75gr and 90gr, both accurate. 18x scope. Need a non Rambo mag. (25 rd) If I can get a yote or other pest in front of it, its gone.

Had the opportunity to shoot in the rain, not sprinkle, misty stuff a real downpour 308,x39 on target. 224V nope. Probably because of the lighter weight maybe? Mental note, if heavy rain is in the forecast use the bigger gun.

Fun day, wish some of yall would have come out.

looked like you had a great time, wish I could have made it out today. Will have to catch up on another trip. Glad you updated us on the prism/magnifier combo. Super cool that it worked. I’m sure it’ll come in handy. I’ve shot in heavy rain before, started out fun but after a little bit the fun wore off, after the lightning started it was no fun at all.

Work day at the other hunting club I joined. Waited 7 years for a spot to open. Had to take it. On this club you have your own personal spot. Build whatever your heart desires. Lots of deer and turkeys. No bucks under 6pt. Only 2 does that do not have young. Was clearing plots and lanes.
My DR trimmer is going to come in real handy. Have some common areas where 450-600 yard shots are possible. Going to set up my game call and pop up blind on one of the huge clear areas and see what shows up. Very hot. Wife was bush hogging today. God bless country girls. I wonder if they ever auction old fire towers?? Would make a kick ass stand.

Hey James, I have a DR walk behind brush cutter if that would help cut smaller places that the tractor cannot get to.
PERFECT for walking trails. Cuts 26 inches. Perfect for down and back. Leaves you a 52" path. Also have used to to open up small openings for feeders, salt and mineral licks, and a place for a small pop up blinds. --- SAWMAN
ADDED: GREAT that you got in the club you wanted. Hope that I don't regret getting out of mine.

Ordered a decent backup bolt assembly in 7.62x39 from brownels. Shipping was only $5 and it was on sale for 10$ off. I wanted to buy a backup 6.5 G bolt from alexander arms and they wanted quite a bit. i was just only going to buy a spare extractor and they wanted $14 for the shipping; I canceled the order.

Try saunders armory, good prices. Sometimes have a sale on bolts. Key on the x39 is to not get one that was a 556 and they ground it out to fit the x39. Company's do it. You can tell by the thickness of the lip. Should be the same thickness as a standard bolt.

Probably did the first GCGF parts relay today with TK5O. Saw these stocks I wanted and had him pick them up for me. We were working a fantastic trade deal. Good seeing you again T.
Magpul carbine fixed stock. Uses the carbine tube! Can be set even shorter or can be made a shade longer by adding a buttpad. No more wiggly crap carbine stock, no more chasing down a rifle tube, spring, buffer, and a2 stock for a hunting rifle. 9 oz! Too. Puts you in the right spot for the scope and cheek weld.

Thanks, I've got the big DR the one with the 17hp Kawasaki self propelled It's a beast. Should be just the right size to fit left and right of the paper company test? cuts. The stumps are too high for the brush hog.

What you want for an adequate bolt is
This Prime Weaponry AR-15 7.62X39mm Bolt Assembly is made from 9310 Vac-Arc Premium Carburizing Steel which has a high core hardness and high fatigue strength unlike standard Hot/cold rolled 9310 steels.

    • Fully Assembled Bolt
    • Shot Peened
    • MPI (Magnetic Particle Inspected)
    • Power Spring Kit
    • Black Nitride Coated
Any AR bolt that will fit a standard AR upper will be thinner in the lip that goes around the base of the larger 7.62x39 cartridge. The 7.63x39 bolt is thought to be more prone to breakage and maybe harder to find, so I keep a spare. 5.56 bolts will eventually fail also and for sure with some of the higher pressure 5.56 that the military uses. Load a 7.62x39 hotter and it will like also fail even sooner. I have a large amount of ak ammo on hand from past years and it is my reserve for training or what ever for the AR platform. Most likely we are headed for hard times. In last three months approximately 9 million back grounds check for gun purchase were run by the FBI and so a lot of other people are thinking the same.

5.56&300blk bolt vs 7.6x39. I run heavy buffers in my gun to minimize stress on the bolt during unlocking and extraction. A heavy buffer slows bolt velocity down for over gas guns.

Thanks RR. I did try out Sanders armory and got a good price on a bolt. Seems too cheap to be true, but it is only a spare and I will try it out once it arrives.
MPI Tested Black Nitride Bolt Head and Extractor. The 9310 Steel MPI Tested bolt with Nitride finish that will not flake off, produces less friction while increasing the life of the bolt head.

THESE ARE MPI TESTED, MIL SPEC, NITRIDE BOLT HEADS WITH NITRIDE EXTRACTORS. THEY WERE A OVER STOCK BUY OUT FROM OUR MANUFACTURER. 90 DAY WARRANTY ONLY.
