Heres a pic of the proper bayo for the early AR's. I just scored a m7 off ebay. Might have you look at it and see if you can work your magic on it. I also need more flag grips, lol.

I remember seeing boxes that looked like those grocery store watermellon containers full of these bayo's,K-Bar's,20 and 30 shot mags (30's were a no-no for us),and other " consumables".
Also the aircrew survival knives with the saw back.
Included were canteens and web gear.
We has to trade the SeaBee's or Korean's for the coveted BAR mag pouches. Although we had no BAR's,they were the perfect size to carry other essential gear. --- SAWMAN

The guy that owns and operates Retro Arms Works is a fellow retro guy and he is a master at what he does. His gunsmithing skills are out of this world. His work is impeccable as are his weapons. He has even done some work for me in the past. He did the barrel work on my 607 clone.

Very, very,VERY nice. Where the hell did you find the lower! I need one. Should the mag release have cross hatching? And the mag catch dimple? Any grey parts left over? I need em. I had considered building one like this but refuse to pay the $200.

    Model 607 info.

The lower is from Nodak Spud. That is where I have acquired most all of my retro lower and upper receivers that were not originals. As for grey parts. AR15Sport.com offers some grey LPKs. Most all of my grey retro parts are original M16 parts.

Thanks. Trying to use orginal parts if I can afford it, lol. Just checked, the lower I want is out of stock. Like yours.

Original parts, especially lower receiver parts, are scarce. I was fortunate to have acquired several original parts a few years ago from a source in Indiana before they depleted the supply they had. The prices they had could not be touched. They were really reasonable. I also bought a few D and E type stocks, M16 receiver extensions, port door cover assemblies, Colt BCGs, and a few other things before they ran out. All of these parts made for some nice retro clone builds.

After alot of reading looks like my best bet is to attempt to build a 604. From my pile of parts.

Yep, looks great. Did you use the slick chrome bolt or the black serrated (for fa)? The upper I have has the forward larger pin hole. The colt barrel dates from 70-71 but has no bayo lug? Werid. I believe it to be a 1:12 twist but have not ran a cleaning rod thru it and watched. Barrel is stamped near the end with C MP B. The mp is touching. it also appears to have the file like ridging down the whole barrel.

That muzzle on the 607, do I want one on a plinking ar15? Not sure what it does for the sound or the blast over a shorty.

Chrome slickside BCG. You r barrel actually dates from Dec. 1971 to some time in 1974. In 1974, they began marking them C MP CHROME BORE. The barrel is a 1/12 twist. I have cannot explain the absence of the bayonet lug other than someone, for some reason, removed it. If the upper receiver has the larger pivot pin lug (.315"), it is from a SP1. The SP1 and the M16 used the same barrels. If you can get another .625 FSB, you can send it to Retro Arms Works and John will install it. You are probably looking about $65-$70 (plus shipping) to have that done, but it would be worth it. He can also install a sleeve in the upper receiver to allow for a .250" pivot pin to be used. I believe he will need the lower to make sure it is properly aligned.

Now, with the barrel actually dating from 1971-1974, these would not have been installed on 604s from the factory. They would have been on M16A1s. That does not mean that you cannot build a nice 604 clone using that barrel.

I do not recommend using that muzzle device on a plinker. If you are building a 607 clone, it is essential. It is throws out a nice fireball. On a short barrel, there are other and better options. The Noveske KX3 "Flaming Pig" is a better option. I had one on an AR pistol I used to have. It did help to mitigate most of the flash and concussive blast. KAK also has their Flash Can. Like I said, if you are building a 607 clone, you need to use what is correct.

CAUTION: The origional "moderator" type muzzle device, with the side cuts,on a 11.5" bbl is EXTREMELY loud. There is also elevated blast/shock/over pressure . . ESPECIALLY when firing tucked under your arm with the two position stock collapsed.
Add to this,if the weapon is fired "fast" and muzzle is allowed to climb.
Watch out for those eyebrows. --- SAWMAN
ADDED: The XM177E2 guns issued in SE Asia were NOT made with a bayo lug. All of them had grenade rings. The moderators didn't moderate a damn thing.
