Oh this sucks... in lake Erie headed to toledo. Can't get home soon enough!!

I spent part of one winter on the shore of a Great Lake at the Navy Training Command there on Lake Michigan north of Chicago. By the time I left there in March, I swore I would never be that far north in winter again! Later, I was; but it was not as bad as on that shore!

I grew up in SE Minnesota, I've walked across the Mississippi river when it froze over growing up. I joined the Air Force and got out of that Frozen land, it's beautiful during the summer but too cold for me over the long Winter. Air Force landed me here in Florida at Eglin AFB and this is where I stay. If I want to see snow I'll take a vacation but not going to move much more North than this ever!

Well the boat is pumped out! Had to double the lines today and install shock lines. Water levels rise and fall dramatically here. Very short tow line with chafing gear for the steel cable.

Gordon Lightfoot had a tune about such things.

Hope your crew & Captain are well seasoned. (Nothing to due with Pepper and Saltiness)

When you retire place an Oar on your shoulder and walk inland till someone asks you what that thing on your shoulder is. That's the place for perfect retirement. JMHO Shipmate.

Last time I crewed on the Yacht Club to Mackinac Race was 1969. The Summer of 69 was exquisite. JMHO.

Should the "Bell toll for you" is there anyone that you would like to entrust thier future with to an Old Frogman? But Y'all have already secured thier future with family. Sorry I mentioned it, but I have a soft spot for Great Lake Mariners.

Can you ring that bollard on the bow line with 2” nylon? Without a line handler?
Nope, too far and the lines are put out on the lower deck. Bullnose, roller chocks. I can lower the 7/8's cable at the forward winches on the bollards if the captain can get her against. Using the winch and a heaving line tied to the eye though.
When I worked tugs I could throw about 30 feet an hit them. Redneck that iam I threw it like a cast net, teeth and all lol.
