That is a losing argument. No one cares. I am for Zero Regulations on firearms and even I am tired of people complaining about nomenclature.
There's always the Devil in the details and details push agenda one way or the other. Shoud we just call all out semi-automatic firearms "Assault weapons, automatic or full auto" and never correct politicians, gun grabbers or the media? Gun Buyback" is a friendly sales pitch to try an avoid what it actually is. Its a financially incentivized gun turn in with 100% amnesty. Cities could run gun turn in programs every week if they wanted to. How's Gun Surrender and Amisty Day sound? No Questions asked gun turn in day. Will pay you to surrender your guns? If they're just providing a public opertunity to turn in unwanted guns why pay an incentive? No, even people that don't want them around know guns have value but It's not unusual for gun shops and LE to get calls from lawful citizens about getting rid of guns.

Buy Backs are more of a anti-gun PR event than a public service and have shown ZERO reduction in crime after these event take place. "We" all know this and its not put out for our consumption. Its PR: we're doing something (and want you to think it will reduce "GUN CRIME") to get guns of the Street. They aren't disarming thugs/criminals. There might be a grand/parent that found little Sammy's gat while putting away his skivies and turning one or two in and good for them.

If the anti-gun politicians deceive the population with statements that voluntary Gun Buy Backs reduce crime, then they can push involuntary Gun Buy Back to reduce crime even further. Involuntary Gun Buy Backs are also a mental and financial carrot to reduce resistance to Gun Bans and intended to persuade people to comply and "get something" for the gun rather than nothing and face potential criminal Charges, fine, prison and confiscation of property.

If the Feds can pull 1.9 Trillion Stimulus out of thin air without any spending reduction offset, they could just a magically drop a couple billion on an initial AW/Mags Ban with an included "Buy Back" provision. Like other Countries that tried it, it will fail to provide the desired results buying or confiscating firearms.
