Old discolored/stained ammo

You can feel it. Almost looks like rust but none of it bleeds off. There is also black spotting all over the casing. This may be common but haven't seen this before.

That Butir ammo is great. I got about 2000rds back in 1990 or 91. I have shot all but a couple hundred rds.
It is fairly hot. I shot a bunch of it thru a 183 serno Mini and a underfolder 223Rem AK. --- SAWMAN

No green. I think I'd trust them for plinking? Surely not self defense. Just don't want them to explode on me.

Just take some steel wool and polish them smooth again.
Plink away

Then go get some airtight ammo boxes...there's a reason they're so popular
Toss in a bag of desicant and yer set for a few decades.

Mine were/are packed in cardboard bxs of 30rds. Most of them were taken apart and dumped into green ammo cans.
None of them have any marks like in the above. WD-40 soaked steel wool will make them plink'able. --- SAWMAN
ADDED: You ammo can users - -> put light grease or heavy oil on a cotton swab and coat the rubber seal under the top lid. Makes/keeps it more pliable and air tight.

Many years ago I had a late friend who had a full military can of M-1 carbine ammo. He was worried about it going bad, so he sprayed it down (ie. saturated it) with Americas' favorite preservative, WD-40. The only thing I could ask him was did he still have the green box?

I have opened,and have witnessed the openings of Garand,carbine,45ACP (1911 and grease gun) ammo from both WWII and Korea. All was visually in perfect condition.
For ammo to get severely rusted/corroded like that,it would have to be subjected to salt water,blood,or a somewhat harsh chemicals. ---- SAWMAN
