I set up my reloading bench, but Im not enjoying having to reclaim my press to the bench every 200 rounds or so. Im thinking of getting a plate about a quarter inch thick and bolting it to my bench.

Should I get steel, aluminum, or plywood?

This is the bench Im using. The mounting plate would have to be about 12 inches by 24 inches.

I would be bolting two single stage presses to it.

Any ideas? Im leaning towards steel, but I think that might get a little rusty down here in FL. :/

I am not a reloader but I work in a machine shop so I do know a little about rust. I would say steel but would suggest spraying it with a very good primer or even a “bake on“ type enamel if you think rusting will be a problem.

So get a coated piece of Steel. Is there anyplace you would recommend for ordering plate steel that size? or maybe bar stock and cut it to the 2 foot length?

Do not know if you have a shop or steel yard locally but maybe call around. Someone may have something already cut out to your specified size Or at least close. Our stuff just gets delivered out of yard in Birmingham so no experience with any of the online vendors. Looks like you can order a piece of a36 from pretty much anywhere, even amazon. Don’t know about trying to stack flat bar. It may try to flex at the joint.

I had my Dillon and Rock Chucker mounted to a steel plate on top of my MDF bench for years...I did drill and tap the holes. Through bolted it with real large washers underneath...sometimes the table legs came off the ground but nothing came un-bolted.

    I use Inline Fabrication now
