I've seen men pound holes right thru the tops of those helmets on tent stakes when there weren't enough hammers to go around, so I can imagine that a bullet would pass right thru too

We were better off with the steel helmets. At least we could boil water, cook and shave in them, too

Idk, one saved my life so I’m kinda biased. They were never made to be bullet proof. That said many soldiers have had bullets glance off of them when not a straight direct on shot. They stop shrapnel just fine. I took a blow to the head from hitting a .50 mount on a hmmwv from the gunners spot. Still here, I’m not perfect but with steel it would have crushed in on my head. If I needed it I’d hit you. GLWS sir.
