i know you should only shoot M2 ball in a Garand, but can you shoot M2 ball in a modern rifle, like a model 700 remington?

what is the longest shot made by our forum members with a garand?
Back in the early 80s, I shot leg matches at 600 and 1000 yards with the M1 garand. It was a NM with paperwork from the 1958 camp Perry. It shot a whole lot better than I did.

is modern ammo ok for a 1903 springfield made in 1942 ?
Is that the date on the barrel or have you determined the receiver was made in 1942? If the receiver was made in 1942, modern ammo would be ok if the headspace is correct. If the receiver is considered to be a “low number” RIA or SA, most consider it not safe for full power or modern ammo as it might not handle the full pressure coming from a split or ruptured cartridge case. More info on your receiver is required to better provide info to you. A pic of the receiver showing maker and serial number would help along with a pic of the bolt to see if bolt handle is swept back or straight. Can PM it to me if you don’t want to post on forum.

I shoot mild cast bullet loads in my low number RIA and am confident in MY use of such a rifle.
