I kinda of figured that, I'm going to BPS tomorrow and get some new brass. I have a new rifle to develop a hunting load for so I have some work to do.

Not so much the head stamp, but the weight,if all else is equal. I have seen numerous professional bench rest shooters using brass of different head stamps, but the weights are udually betwen 1 and 3grs.
Even the older 222Rem shooters, with the extremely light weight brass would come to within 1-2grs. ---SAWMAN

Does mixed head stamp rifle brass matter for accuracy?

The answer is yes but do you need to be that percise for your application? Bench rest accuracy for 600 meters or hunting accuracy for 100 yards? This would also identify whether it it would be benificial to weigh and group projectiles as the will also vary in weight.

In this regard when we say head stamp, case weight, we are actually refering to differences of internat case volume. Case construction: wall thickness varies at different points within the case and by Mfg. We size on the "outstide". We trim length and primer "hole" size can vary, and that also changes "case weight".

The most accurate way to I have found to measure case volume is to take a clean case and fill it with water from a syringe. The volume of water equals true capacity. You can use the amount of water transfered or place case on scale zero it and then use the water weight when full. This is a tedious job but gives you what you actually need to know: case volume.

Apparently my book is a little dated. Not much of a selection in the 165s

I figured the 308 would be moving faster than that. My 35 Whelen load is a 225gr Nosler moving at 2740fps on paper. I want to take it our and crono it one day to see how close I am.

I just started trying to reload for my 38. I have reloaded successfully 223/556, however with the 38 I reloaded 6 rounds went out to test and first one out the gate Squib. Now I'm wondering if the other five are fine, could it be the powder(h-38), primers(CCI500)?
Guess I'll grow a set and try another to see if it's just my luck.
Do any of you use magnum primers in your pistol loads to insure a good ignition?

Shot the other five, they went bang, but pretty obvious my powder throw was all over, I could hear the difference. While weighing the charges I noticed a deviation, but thought it wouldn't affect it that much. Hodgdon calls for 3.7gr I had anywhere from 3-4.1 but I was just trying to get something started and wanted to try a couple rounds while setting up my press for 38. It is also dirty looking around barrel.

The squib is what's giving me pause, I wouldn't think a light load of 3gr would've caused it but what do y'all think, could it?

Light load, bad primer, bullet sized incorrectly, bad overall length, fouled powder.....any of the above could have caused your squib. The variances in your load with HP-38 bothers me as it historically meters like water. What are you measuring powder with? Also, what bullet are you loading?

The measure that came with my Hornady AP press. Bullets are 125gr from extreme bullets.
I'm currently just weighing each load cause the variance in powder bothered me also. I'll break the measure down and clean it good later. See if I can see any thing wrong.
    Thanks
    Paul

Neck tension has a lot to do with Hornady's recommended powder charge, but I would not recommend role crimping plated bullets. I would adjust an accurate powder charge for these bullets and primers.

Well the variance was obvious once I pulled it apart, I'm a moron and didn't change the rotor to small pistol.
