I am teaching my nephews how to hunt this year. Wanting to get a .243 so they have something that can help them learn but without the brute kick.

Anyone have thoughts on brands, places with best deals (online or local), or selling one? Haha.

They would be hunting hog and whitetail.

Take a look at the Ruger Americans. I believe that they make/offer the COMPACT model chambered in 243Win. The 7-08 would be another option IMO . . especially if you will reload for it.
Both the trigger and the stock bedding make this gun a great value. --- SAWMAN

I shoot a cva Hunter break barrel single shot .243 with a 20” barrel has a great Crisp trigger. Will shoot sub moa at 100yd with 90gr federal fusions. Mounted a leupold freedom 3x9x50 scope on it with dnz rings. Had mine cerokoted. Very little kick. Firearm runs a little over $200 I believe I paid $190 on sale. My buddy bought his son one and he took his first hog at 60 yd off the feeder. .i just took three hogs two rounds with the fusions at 50 yards. Went through the neck of the big sow entered the shoulder of the second and came to rest in the skin of opposite shoulder.

Just left Crestview Walmart, and they have a number of rifles on Clearance. I picked up a Remington 770 Youth 243 Combo for $190. They had several other options, including Savage Axis Combos for slightly more (maybe $260?), and on up to other calibers for what seemed to be at least 30%-40% off regular price.

Wish I lived closer to crestview.

Depending on where in Milton you live, it's only about 30 minutes. I just moved here from Cantonment, and was travelling back and forth almost daily for the year before I moved. Take 90 across through Holt if you live north of I10. The guy that waited on me yesterday told me there were only 9 long guns left in back-stock what was in the Display case.
