I've got my eye on an .45 xds 3.3. Single stack. Currently carring P3at with 10 shots (ext. Mag) loaded with interceptor poly. Weighs 14.4 oz. The 45 is a 6 shot and weighs 21.5 oz. Thoughts? Also has anyone shot the pistol xds?

My EDC on 2x6 rail (5.5)

Thanks. Is the recoil straight back or does the weapon twist? I carry everyday, all day/night and want something comfortable, not like a brick in my pocket or dragging my pants down. Ill have to use a iwb holster, prob wont fit in a pocket like my mini. No issues with the weapon though? feeds hp's, ball, ejects, accuracy, etc. You dont feel under guned with only 6 shots?

if an upgrade were on my agenda, I'd go for a greater than 6 capacity. Didnt you just make comment about a revolver being under-capacity in another thread? Maybe I misinterpreted your comment, but you did mention casualties with an empty gun. Not being critical, serving some food for thought. I'd look into other options more geared towards the size of your current carry, maybe a little larger (carrying all day/night, size and weight becomes cumbersome) with greater capacity.

    Springfield Hellcat?
    Glock 43x?

    There's many others.

I had a Glock 36 that I carried off-duty and as a back-up. Very good shooter! That being said IMO the best bang for the buck .45 single stack is the M&P Shield! They shoot even better than the Glock 36 or even better than my current Glock 30! They have a lifetime warranty and can be had for about $375 if you shop around. Good luck!

Good points. Some history been cc ing since 90. Started with a smith 59 9mm. 4 years later switched to charter arms undercover 38.Carried that for about 5 years then switched to bersa thunder 380. Used it for about 5 years then switched to the p32 two years went to p3at. Was concerned about stopping power and upped the caliber and mag cap. Figured small caliber so add more shots. Light hp ammo so go poly add speed and cavitation. So actually I'm going backwards on capacity and up on power- 45acp. Should have just stuck with the 38 revolver, and used the cash to buy yahoo stock, lol. I just ran across a deal on one and it got me thinking.

My thinking is that anybody (in the know) going to 45ACP . . It's gotta be a Colt. --- SAWMAN

Have you shot the XD models? I am not a fan of their triggers or that goofy grip safety! It is not like the grip safety on the 1911's. If you like the 1911 platform for about the same $$ as an XDs you could get a Rock Island 1911 in the Commander size in .45 acp and call it a day!

My first take on reading the title was that upgrading meant adding an accessory to you gun. Like better trigger or sights. Caliber is important but a .22 or even .25 in the eye socket beats a .45 that grazes your opponent. Ideally you want both, a big hole and in a vital spot. Also the more shots within limits, the better.

PS: It was warm today and I saw my first snake, but it was harmless one. Still stuck a .38 in holster in my pocket loaded with shot and put on leggings because I was working in my creek.

I ammend my above . . . or RI or Springfield. Sorry for the insolence. They both make good guns. To be tweaked before carry. --- SAWMAN

Take a look at the small sized Glock. ( 26,33,etc) Adding a Pierce grip extension to the bottom of the mags (I use the +0 model) makes the gun very "grippy" and for me the recoil of full power 357Sig is very controllable.
You can also carry/use the larger mags for range, carry reload, etc, etc. I carry a Glock 32 mag as a reload for my 33 and a Glock 31 mag as a reload for my 31. --- SAWMAN

I think y'all are right, the .45 is too much. Back to looking at other options. I'll look for a 9mm. Probably will go with single stack even though low capacity, but more than 6 rds.

The trouble I have with with carry guns in general is if it’s to big and heavy or to difficult to conceal then I won’t carry it. I can choose to carry a smaller gun or go unarmed. I tend to avoid places of nuisance and mind my own business,But will freely admit that I fell safer with a carry gun than I do with out one. My hats off to you guys that have the determination and the mind set to carry a full size pistol and related equipment everyday no matter what.

Agree 100%. Easier to carry, the more you carry. If it's a hassle and not easy it gets left at home or in the truck.

Good to have both available. I too have a “lazy” carry for the times I don’t feel like putting on real pants or a belt. Kinda like some people have a “summer” carry different from their “winter” carry. So while I normally may carry a full size pistol w/ light AIWB, I also have non light bearing holsters, OWB holsters, in addition to having a G43 and AIWB holster, and even pocket and ankle holsters.

I think it’s smart to at least stay in the same family of weapons for familiarity sake.

At least use pistols with the same type of controls. One using a manual safety and another that does not is not wise.

    . . . "ankle holsters" . . .
I really though that you were more "tactical" than that. (sorry)

Picked one up.(Used, but not much) 8 shot 9mm PF9 For a good price. Two mags, pocket holster and 100 rds 9mm. I'm sure it's a kicker, but short and lightweight. Parkerized slide, adjustable sights. I'll weigh it loaded later.
