    Interesting, and sadly preventable.
Both dogs had a history of aggression, not only with each other but also with other people. They shouldn't have been in those living conditions in the first place.

Anybody else wonder why the neighbor used a crossbow?
Anybody else wonder why the article went out of its way to mention that "the crossbow, which he was licensed to own and used for hunting,..."?

This was in Massachusetts. Gun control and red flag laws galore. Even retired LEO school-crossing guards aren't safe:

I was in Pine Bluff AR a few months back and I went into a sporting store that had crossbows for sale and was shocked to find some that had scopes on them and cost $1600.

Oh yeah. You start getting in to the nicer stuff like Ten Points, you can spend 1500-2000 easy... personally I wish they'd outlaw them for deer hunting (during archery season. Hunting with a crossbow is about like hunting with a shitty rifle. Fairly accurate out to 100 yards.

I was guessing felon, but who knows.

Maybe. I figured if the state requires you to have a license to own a crossbow, it probably doesn't allow them for felons. But like you said, who knows.
