    Well Almost!
I got these two 8 points 37 minutes apart on the 8th. Both really nice bucks and racks. I've been wanting to get "Captain Hook", a nice 8 point stud with hooked main beams. I showed off these 2 bucks to my cousin and hit me up that I should take him 1 day. So yesterday morning I took him and set him up about 100 yards down from my spot. Around 0645 I had a 6 point come out about 20 yards to my left. He had dark deep amber antlers. As he eased on out and across the way, I videoed him hoping cuz would take him but he didn't?
I know, such a nice buck I should have shot him, but I wanted the Captain.
Then about 15 minutes or so later, as luck would have it, Captain Hook came out about 100 yards away and started cutting over. He was about 70 yards when I was readying for the shot, and "BAM" The Captain fell where he stood. Damn I says, my cousin got my Captain and with my rifle. :pout:
He was excited to say the least, I was a bit bummed out at first but if I'd got him, I'd been "limited out" and wouldn't been able to pursue "Texas", another big rack buck that sports a larger wider rack than the Captain. He did split the deer meat and I got the head (just to do a European skull mount for him), so it's not all bad. :eyebrows:

The Captain is the bottom 2 pics.

My son got this really nice 7 point little over 2 weeks ago on the 31st, nearly the same place as the 8's.

The inside of the Captain's thighs were rubbed hairless, indicating he'd been passing his genes to some does. So the rut is in this way.

Nice kills! Are those FL deer? I have yet to see any that big on any of my hunts I've done in FL.

Those would have been really nice deer in 2-3 years

Yeah they would've been, except I don't believe they'd have made it 2-3 more years, if they were left to walk.

Thanks, yes, they are NW Fla deer.

So is it your contention that they are a different species of whitetail deer? or just a regional description of a small spike buck?

Don't really know, the skull is different though. But the ones I've seen are grey/black or a dark, dark tanish color. I've got 3 game cams up in areas I've seen them in so maybe we'll get lucky.

Yeah, big for a Alabama as well. Must be feeding them GMO corn! We have black deer here too, just really small. I'd be embarrassed to shoot one plus not much meat

Ya'know, the stuff could be gmo, but it isn't corn?
I use that wild berry record rack deer feed and sportsman choice elk and deer feed.
The wild berry is a small nugget and the elk/deer feed is a pellet (resembles rabbit feed) and way less noticeable than corn.
The hams on the 1st two 8's were at least a 1/3 larger than the hams on the Captain, and his were pretty big hams.
