Tamer 20 H&R. Mod choke. Polished the bore and it's good enough to use for turkeys. #6 pheasant. 2 3/4.

Btw I've shot 3 inch turkey loads out of this, banged up cheek and raw shoulder, not fun. Shot about 20 of the "magic" turkey loads, the #6 patterned better, lol.

I had one for several years and like you said can be brutal to shoot. (12 ga 870 doesn't bother me) It finally went away because I could never figure out a good purpose for me. In hindsight I wish it had been in .410 if so I probably would have kept it.

Trust me those Tamers in 20 ga are brutal because of the shortened very hard stock. My 12 ga 870 Tactical is a pussycat with similar loads compared to the Tamer! For my purposes a shotgun like that would be for incidental small game and poisonous snakes. For that role a .410 does the good well yet doesn't beat you up. For any larger game requiring a 20 ga or 12 ga I have pumps in both those gauges that work better for me and have the advantage of more than a single shot on board. Just my .02 worth!

I can see brutal with high brass and such, but with standard low brass can't be that bad ? and would give double coverage at half the cost.
They were marketed as snake charmers not turkey guns.

Could be used for turkey. UTV gun for fishing / general purpose. Polished the bore and the pattern improved. The low brass loads are not bad just the magnum stuff.

Thanks for the info. I'm looking at getting a Stevens 301 Compact 20 gauge, myself. The Stevens has a longer barrel than the Tamer, and only 1/4 longer length of pull. The guns are so similar otherwise, it's good to know about the recoil.
The Stevens also takes choke tubes, which is a big selling point for me. That, and the price.
    My 2 pennies' worth,

To me,as stated above, the Stevens 301 COMPACT is the way to go.
But whatever the decission is,remember you can shoot the Aguila mini shells in a 12ga. They are softer than any 20ga. They shoot great in my NEF. --- SAWMAN

That gun in 28 ga would be a lot nicer. My limited experience with a .410-.22 over and under savage showed poor groups from the .410.
By the way, last wk there were 28 ga shells on the shelf at wally world, but they were expensive. For some reason both .410 and 28 ga shells relative to lower end 12 ga shells were always expensive. I have some 28 ga mag tech brass ones that should be reloadable for many loads if survival hunting with a shotgun was ever an important thing in an old breakopen single shot. One would want about 3/8 to 1/2 oz of #6 shot for squirrel or robin size birds.
Field birds were commonly eaten years ago. People caught them in nets.
Sing a song of sixpence, a pocketful of rye, four and 20 blackbirds baked in a pie. When the pie was opened, the birds began to sing. Now wasn't that a dainty dish to set before a king? The king was in his counting house counting out his money; the queen was in the parlor eating bread and honey.
