Im about to buy a lever rifle in .308.
Wondering what you think about pros and cons of straight or pistol grip stocks. Any advantage to either?
Ive owned pistol grip levers, but never a straight stock.
Other than looks, and possibly some wrist relief with a pistol grip, is there any real difference?
Seems to me its just a personal choice.
    Input appreciated.

I do not believe that either has an advantage as far as accuracy. Possibly a little for the weight.
Take a close look as to how you carry a lever gun thru the woods. That could possibly dictate which stock is best for you.
I have always been partial to a straight stock gun and have owned quite a few 1895 and 1894 Marlins.
Let us know what you decide and why so we can make fun of you. ---- SAWMAN

I don't have to let you know which stock I choose, you're going to make fun of me anyway, and that's the way it should be. it means everything is right in the world, except Denny isn't here to take up for me.

Would they be better that a Browning BLR ? the price is about the same?
PS: My vote would be straight stock.
Unless you go for a used savage or winchester, the only options are Henry or Browning, No tube fed versions out there.

SAWMAN - That was great advice. The way I hold my rifle when hunting, stalking was the only variable I hadn't considered.
I picked it up this week and am ordering accessories now.
    1 - Leather lever wrap
    2 - Sling
3 - Picatinny rail - will be using a quick release Larue mount
    4- Extra detachable mag
Once fully assembled I'll be contracting you for a range trip if you're available.

    #1 . . . I get to make fun of your gun.
#2 . . . come on over. Sweet tea then range time.

I don't want to be ridiculed, humiliated, embarrassed, and made fun of publicly. Well, go ahead and do it!
I got the pistol grip. Figured it would work best for me.

    Cool :)

    My grandpa's 1952 Marlin 30-30 is a pistol-grip. I like it.
Often thought that a straight stock would not handle recoil as nicely as the pistol grip...makes a fella wonder ;)
Anyone got some hard comparisons and/or data??

I know its a personal choice with mostly aesthetically reasons, but SAWMAN raised the question as to how you carry it. When stalking I usually have my rifle in a low ready position with my hand on the stock around the pistol grip area. So the pistol grip works best for me. Just feels comfortable.
