    Carbine Fundamentals @ ERGC 01/18/2020

Hello everyone, posting up a late notice of a class the Saturday after next, January 18th, 2020 at Escambia River Gun Club in Cantonment, FL.

    Rifle/Carbine Fundamentals Course

Course Length: 1 day, 8 hours, starting at 08:00 A.M. and running until approximately 16:00 hours P.M.

Course Tuition: $100, all range fees and any applicable taxes are included.

    Course Topics:
    Applied Firearms Safety and Mindset
    Equipment selection and placement
    Unloading, Loading, and Press Checks
    Snap-ups and ready positions
    Check, Scan, and Assess (TWSICM)
    The Seven Fundamentals of Marksmanship
    The three types of Reloads
    Malfunction clearance
    Targeting and Transitions
Use of Cover, Concealment, and Movement
    Support Side shooting
    Discretionary shooting

    Prerequisites:
All students must know how to safely handle a firearm, have fired live ammunition from a rifle in the past, and be physically, mentally, and legally capable of doing so. It is recommended that you have at least practiced in dryfire safely carrying and otherwise operating a rifle before.

Equipment Requirements and Recommendations: (exceptions made on a case-by-case basis)
You must bring your own rifle/carbine. This course is designed around the 5.56mm AR-15/M4 type carbine. However, any functional, safe carbine will be acceptable. To get the most out of this training course, it is recommended you bring a reliable AR-15 platform semi-automatic rifle/carbine chambered in .223 Remington/5.56x45mm NATO, cable of holding a minimum of 20 rounds per magazine. Bring a spare rifle if you have one, and the supporting equipment. Red dot sights with back-up iron sights are recommended. All Sights/Optics should be zero’d prior to attending this course. If shooting a caliber other than .223/5.56, please bring at least 10 dummy rounds.
You must bring your own sling. It is recommended your sling be an adjustable 2-point mounted with quick disconnects. When your rifle is slung, it should be pointed in a safe direction, be controlled during movement without the use of your hands, and able to be shouldered quickly.
You must bring a minimum of two magazines for your rifle. It is highly recommended to bring more if you have them.
You must bring a minimum of one magazine pouch. It is recommended your pouches be specific to your magazines, be made of a rigid material (Kydex, Boltaron, or other molded plastic), be belt slide mounted, outside the waistband, and worn on the support side. They should be open top with adjustable retention.
A sturdy gun belt worn through the belt loops, or an inner/outer belt combo using either Velcro, keepers, or both.
Appropriate clothing for wear on an outdoor range in the prevailing weather, including sturdy closed-toe footwear. It is recommended to bring a hat with a brim, alternative clothing for hotter/colder than expected weather, and rain gear for inclement weather. I personally recommend a collared shirt for protection from the sun and hot brass. No tank tops, low cut shirts, sandals or flip flops.
500+ rounds of target practice ammunition in the correct caliber for your weapon. Full/Total Metal Jacket is preferred.
    Hearing and wrap-around eye protection.

Other Recommended Optional Equipment and Considerations:

    Sunscreen
    Insect repellent
    Cooler with cold water
    Snacks
    A pre-prepared lunch
    Portable camp chair
    Portable table
    Portable shade canopy/shelter
    Cleaning gear
    Tools
    Spare parts
    Spare batteries for any electronics
    Kneepads and Elbow pads
    Gloves
    Ground covering

No one has signed up for this class, and it’s looking like a heavy rain anyway. Good time for a private class if anyone is interested.

Sorry that did not go as planned and glad you were able to work something else out. Looking forward to the next carbine class opportunity.
