The 9 inch tube forearm is +4 oz heavier than what I have on so that's a nogo. ( no way to mount irons, too) could use the 4 inch tube but that would expose the gas block and gas tube so that's out. Looks like I'm at a standstill.

I build a lightweight 16", took me almost 2 years because I had to wait for sales and coupons (ball'in on a budget), had a budget that I didn't want to go over. Only got 79.3 oz. (4.9lbs). Anyway, looking at your pic, the only thing that I could see to do is ditch the brace. At one point when I was doing my build and I was trying to make up my mind on the stock that I wanted to get, I put some one sided velcro on the buffer tube as a cheek rest, Ghetto...YES, but was functional to me...lol.

BTW, if you take it apart and weigh each part separate, you should be close on your weight.

    Ok, duh.
Pulled it apart and weighed it, here's the skinny.

24.36 oz Complete Lower with buffer/spring/tube and stock
    11.03 oz Bolt
29.03 oz upper with charging handle and thread protector
    7.54 oz handguard w/bolts

    Total 70.56 oz = 4.41 lbs, dammit.

    not counted ---->

    Sling - 3.22oz
    Loaded 20rd mag - 10.38oz

So total weapon weight, no sling or mag/ammo 4.41lbs

Just gotta figure out how to drop 8 oz's to make the -4 lb mark.

5.28 lbs sling and steel cased loaded mag.

Brownell’s sells a M-16 5.56 lightweight bolt carrier group that weighs in at 8.2 oz...save you almost 3 oz and cost right at a bit under 1 Benjamin...(about what a regular non sale bcg costs)

Thanks. I think the only other Avenue is a shorter pencil barrel and handguard, without getting into the big $$ parts.

FYI anderson sport upper weighs 6.59 oz.

I've got another ap custom carbon handguard. Think it's 9". My scale says 3.5oz with the hardware. It goes on a standard barrel nut. Let me know if you're interested.

Might be. I'd have to change the barrel nut. This one is the slotted one with the pass thru bolts. $$$? Does it have the rail on top or is it just round? Thanks

This is the original style without the top rail. There are slots in the sides and bottom to install a short rail section with their backer plate. Without drilling holes, you won't be able to attach anything to the top. On my 22, I was able to rotate the tube 180deg to get the bottom slots up top but that's because there's no gas tube on the. If you're still interested, I'll provide the rail segment and a used barrel nut(adds 1 oz) with the handguard for $80 shipped.

ETA: Looking closer, if you really wanted a top rail, you could flip the tube but you'd only be able to use 2 of the 3 screws to keep it secured onto the mount.

As long as you understand by changing buffer weights you could be messing with reliability.

Oops I think I read that wrong that your buffer was under 3oz. My bad

No problem. There are alot of buffers, I'll bet there's more types of springs too. I think there's alot to gain by trying other weights and springs too. Not to mention solid vs loose buffers.(they rattle)
