Does anyone know of a good book that can be used if I were to get into AR-15 clones?

I had a guy show me a book that was the size of an encyclopedia and had color pages of different variations used in the military. It also has the history of each rifle as well. I remember the price of this book was like $120, just forgot what book this was.

    Any help would be appreciated

Which particular models are you looking into? Retro (carrying handle uppers) or modern (flat-top uppers)? When doing military clones, there is a very broad spectrum of models and variations thereof. Most books do not cover the details for the various models. I have built several clones ranging from the early 1960s to current models. The Black Rifle, The Black Rifle II, and Larry Vickers' VickersGuide AR-15 Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 are all good sources, but as I said, they do not cover a lot of the details.

I’m more into the modern flat top. And yes it was Vickers guide that I was told to get.

I plan on doing an URG-I and have most of the parts coming in. I just have to source a Colt or FN lower and a B5 SOPMOD stock/4 position buffer tube. If I can’t get it exactly correct Due to parts sourcing, then I guess even a near clone is good for me.

    I’ll also be doing possibly a MK12 mod 1

As far as a URG-I, AR15.COM has a thread dedicated to them.

They also have a thread for the Mk12 Mod 0, Mod 1, and Mod H.

Another lower option is the PSA M4A1 lower ($49.99 - https://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-m4a1-stripped-lower-receiver.html). I used one for my M4A1 Block II build.

Nice TackleberryMCS. I really appreciate the time for looking up these items. The Palmetto lower Gov’t rollmarked are pretty nice. I might have to get a few of those for these builds as it seems like the reviews are pretty good.

What is your experience with them?

I have used several PSA lowers over the years. Never had an issue with one. From what I have seen, Aero Precision machines and finishes their lowers. AP makes good stuff.
