And . . . as time goes on I have seen (witnessed ) more and more hunters NOT willing to put in the necessary time, effort, and gain the proper knowledge, for tracking, finding, and recovering both wounded or dead deer.

Sometimes I hear it helps to have a leased dog available also to help in the recovery.

Picked up some sig 40gr hunting ammo to try .223. 3650 fps, 1150 eng. At barrel. dosent say what length barrel on the box.
    Mine 1:9 16 inch.

That 40 grain really sounds like it would good be for varmint hunting and if so the bullet will be highly frangible and not the best choice for deer or hog hunting.

What caliber? Is he doing spine shots? Or is the trauma so great its bursting all the vessels????

caliber(s) unknown. could be any one of a half dozen.. I lifted this off another forum I am on, but all were supposed to be neck kills.. not a long distance either, so the placement could be precise.

I know a one legged apache in texas that trains his son on no more than a nickel size shot placement with a .22mag under 50'

he has taken deer before with eye shots taken with a good scope

For hunting deer and hogs - - -> Barnes TSX or TTSX of 50gr+. Also the Nosler 60gr Partition (1:8 twist or faster). A Hornady GMX would also be good.
Put ANY of these bullet on a bone going in. (Shoulder or rib) The faster twist bbl . . the better. They will kill like a 308Win. --- SAWMAN
