I have recently been having an issue with my M1 garand where the bolt does not cycle after each shot. The gas cylinder lock is about a quarter turn from lining up with the gas cylinder so I am assuming most of the gas is escaping and not cycling the bolt. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to fix this issue?

Garands are a very well known system to most of the older gunsmiths with a very quick look over they should see the cause of the malfunction. I have not broken one down in years, but hard to figure why
The gas cylinder lock is about a quarter turn from lining up with the gas cylinder
. I do not believe you can get the gas 'plug' lock screw to screw in if there is not alignment.

He came, nice young man is in flight training, he needs a new barrel, the threads for the lock are gone, want hold the lock on under pressure . He got it from cmp about 2 years ago, told him to check with them first, and see if they would do any thing, at this time. If not I have a good used barrel are get a new cert. would put it on for him. also wouldn't hurt to get a new lock . just my 5 cents jj

Great advice to check with the CMP they will probably cover it under their warranty repair.
