Pass on the paint thinner or mineral spirits. It's oily. You'll still have to come back with another solvent. Brake cleaner or acetone.

I’ve painted one rifle with krylon like 3 or 4 times until I got what I was looking for. I’d say go cheap on the paint (rattlecan) and if you don’t like it you can try again.

Figure I will revive an old thread. I painted my Shockwave s year or so ago and am going to paint an AR I have as well as the stock for my Compass. Going to try out some very small expanded metal I found but will probably end up with sponges too.

I have multiple rifles painted with Krylon... seems the heat bakes the paint on making it more durable... not a tested fact, just a general observation.

My rifle had an OD base coat with tan and grey accents.

I definitely agree, the heat makes it far more durable.

Whatever you decide RR, make sure you'll love it. I bought an AR pistol that had been rattle canned... it was a total PIA to remove. Painting guns ain't my cup of joe, but to each his/her own!

But but but all the for sale ads say it is easily removed...
Total load of crap. I had to use gel paint stripper and then brake cleaner to get the rest of the stripper out of nooks and crannies. I wont EVER buy another home jobber. To each their own however.

Yep, I had to strip a lower. Orange ? something worked good. Had to use a toothpick to get all the cracks. Bride's gonna paint my lightweight someday. Not my deal either.
