She was yardsaling and picked this up for $20. I'm stuck waiting for medical clearance to get back to work. The name is worn off. Looks like a 22 short? Any thoughts?

If it is not pre-1898 the transfer is illegal as it is to a non resident and did not go through an FFL. Be careful.

WHY was it an out of state purchase??? If not perfectly fine. You go though a FFL every time you sale a gun in here in the same state?

Hell you can even buy a machine gun in the same state and don't need a dealer. Just do the proper forms between you and the seller and send them in to the atf.

A bonafide "Gift" of a firearm isn't a Straw Purchase either. Wife and I "Gift" guns to each other and our adult kids, grandkids. If from a FFL: ATF Form 4473 Q# 11a answer is still YES and the Transfer is lawful. Listed in Instructions.

When I read the original post I thought it referenced wife as out of town. My mistake. As you were.

That is nice.. Does it lock up when you cock it??? Does the cylinder index as it should???..

I love those low price pistols of the 1870s.. They gave them awesome names, One of my favorite is the "Swamp Angel". Named after a brutal New York street gang.. Imagine someone making a pistol today calling it the "Crips" or "Bloods".. Nice gun.

Cylinder spins free, and locks when cocked. Won't ever shoot it though.

I’ve got a couple of those old 22s I’ve shot them with cb caps and Aguila colibri . I don’t think there’s enough pressure in either one of them to blow anything up.

Why not, I shoot several of these low end 22 from the 1800s.. if it looks strong enough, the cylinder locks up tight, it will handle a modern 22 cb cap short.. but if you insist you can scale down and test you can always use 6mm flobert caps.. But its a hoot to shoot those old guns, and they can be shot safely..
