What’s the point of hunting with a handgun other than maybe the challenge? Also, what is the point of the rifle caliber bolt action pistols?

I’m not much of a hunter other than doing pest control on private property (I.e. killing hogs, coyotes, squirrels, occasionally feral cats, etc) so I’m not familiar with these concepts.

After the Army, it really didn't seem fair to hunt with a rifle...so I went Bow.
After spending a lot of time educating deer...and myself...
    switched to blackpowder...more success.
After my grandfather passed & I received his hunting rifle...added it to the mix.
Then bought a G20SF about 8-9 years ago and used it for a few years, sold it...
then bought a Tanfoglio Witness 10mm and LOVE it...grip is totally superior,
but it's not been out hunting yet.
Not For Sale...this is just Gun Pron :)

Best thing about 10mm is the nearly flat bullet flight out to 100 yards,
IF you have it zero'd to 50 yards...gives one pie plate accuracy that far.
So if you memorize the yardage variances, and can judge yardage well,
it'll put you right on target :)

Also the Tanfoglio is set up for a Red Dot...which REALLY helps the equation!!
Doing shots past 50 yards with iron sights on a pistol is tough, so it really
opens up your range to where you can be confident at 100 yards!

The last thing is PRACTICE...it requires a fair amount of drill time
to be precise with a pistol. If you wanna hit anything past 15 yards,
have to put in the time & elbow grease!!
ERML is set up for this courtesy of the 125 yd Rifle Range.
Weekly visits are highly suggested. Spend some time with the RO.
Video yourself as well, helps you fine tune your own processes
and show you where you are goofing/flinching/making errors.

    Hope this helps!

Yep, no comp. I would have really liked to have got it. This one is very nice though. But after reading up on it this serial range 500-xxxxxx had barrel flying off issues. According to the internet. 1983 model. Also its older than I thought 5.5 inch somewhat collectable.

A real hand cannon. What scope? I wish I could have gotten the lone eagle, but I got a very good Ruger. I like the 5.5 barrel, has a very good feel to it, seems to balance well for a brick!

Burris 3-9x extended eye relief pistol scope. I traded a Taurus model 85 even for the gun/scope! Pretty sure I came out ahead on that particular deal.

Very nice. Do really need that much magnification? What's the nub on the bottom? I wonder if a shotgun scope would work?
The scope is dead on at 100 yards and the gun is capable of much further. I just haven't worked up the nerve to test it. For closer range work, I'm sure a shotgun scope or red dot would work well. The little nub is basically a set screw to ensure the crosshairs don't move if the scope gets bumped.
