Anyone have any experience in this new round? They claim 20% less recoil than a .243 while providing more punch etc...

Thinking it would be a great round for my kiddos if it becomes a little more popular?

Anyone have any real world experience with this new round?

I reload and shoot it in a Ruger American Compact model. I felt the recoil was a bit "snappy" in the short lightweight rifle, so I added a small Samson brake to reduce it. I've not hunted with it, and may not as I normally hunt with a Blackout...I'm using it for plinking and reload 158 and 180gr jacketed pistol bullets. Waiting for 350 Legend specific expanding bullets to become available for reloading.

On gel tests, I was impressed with the Winchester factory 150gr performance, but not impressed with the lack of expansion with the Winchester 180gr in gel.

With loads it likes, I feel mine is accurate. I imagine my pistol bullets doing Legend velocities would not penetrate well on a larger boar hog, but I don't know for sure.

Recoil? Mine kicks more than a 7.62x39 for sure; certainly less than a .308. I'm not a fan of big recoil.

PS My accurate load with a Remington 158gr semi jacketed hollow point averages 2341fps at 10' from the chronograph in 80 degree temp. My accurate load with a Hornady 180gr XTP averages 2091fps at 10' from the chronograph in 80 degree temp.

If you are ever over in my area, you and your son are welcome to shoot mine and know for sure about the recoil. I still live where you helped with the goats.

The Legend, for at least right now,is a hand loaders chambering. I have not run the numbers, but would be surprised if it,in factory form, would put out as much energy ("punch") as the 243Win. ÈSPECIALLY anywhere out past chrono range.
I really would like to see it's work on hogs shot anywhere EXCEPT the CNS. With a solid copper or partition type bullet this chambering could work great <100yds or so. A single shot would be my preference just to mess with different bullets and their seating depth. Also max pressures in a strong (NEF ??) action.
Remember, with the energy thing . . . "For every action, there is an EQUAL and OPPOSITE reaction". I think that the inventor of Fig Newtons came up with that one. --- SAWMAN

I'm no expert, but I think its winchesters version of the 357 maximum AR rimless. They tweaked the wildcat and set it up for .355 bullets. I have the wildcat chambered barrel for .357 and .358 bullets from Mad Dog Weapons. Havent put it together yet.

It is similar in concept to the obsolete .351 SL winchester that was a 180 gr bullet at about 1800 fps in the Winchester Model 1907 self-loading

    180 gr (12 g) 1,870 ft/s (570 m/s) 1,400 ft⋅lbf (1,900 J)
The .350 legend is supposed to get a 180 gr bullet to 2100 making it about the same as a .35 remington. But it can work in the AR15 system.
For hunting I would rather have an older marlin 336 in .35 remington myself.
To bad they do not make the 1907 any more.

    Thanks folks.

Great info and what I was looking for.

These days, I seem to be looking for the next rifle and round combo that works great for kiddos! But that also means being able to keep it fed with a constant supply.

Hogdon has listed reloading data on their website. Impressive on paper, but waiting for a little more public opinion before ordering a barrel. As a 357 fan I hope it lasts and does not disappoint.

In reference to the OP, there seems to be lot’s of info here from reloaders and some those who “don’t” actually own this gun/cartridge. Well, I DO own this in an AR platform and absolutely LOVE it! The recoil is barely above a basic 5.56 and it’s VERY accurate (at least mine is topped with a Vortex Strike-Eagle 1-8). Target ammo is exceptionally cheap and the manufacturers are starting to make excellent hunting rounds as well. Can’t wait to use this on some deer and hogs soon! As far as comparison with a .243? I don’t think that is an apples to apples comparison. But I do know that this 350 Legend (.357 caliber) hits hard and leaves a BIG hole! :). B82ECDBB-FD21-44AD-9B8E-A3EE4114B99E.jpg

I am going to stick with my wildcat barrel. I dont think they sell .355 bullets for handloaders that can stand up to the speed. My wildcat barrel can handle.357 and .358 bullets

350 Legend is a weighty projectile (same weight as a 308) in a straight walled 223 case... I really thought more people would see it for that by now. Shooters have been trying to get the weight down on 308 AR10's for like 20 years now... somebody finally just made a way to put a 30 round mag full of 150 grain projectiles into an AR15. It's the same work around on the AR47's using 7.62x39. If you're not shooting past 200-300 yards anyways, then you'll never notice the difference between these calibers in an AR15 versus a 308 in an AR10. I am not a handloader, but from what I've read, the 300 Blackout is not even close in performance to 350 Legend or 7.62x39. The whole appeal and purpose of 300 Blackout is that it is loaded with fast burning pistol powder, so that it will achieve a complete powder burn out of an SBR with no muzzle flash... the "black out". The 350 Legend and 7.62x39 are loaded with rifle powders made for actual full size rifles to reach out and touch something at hundreds of yards and still have plenty of energy on target

Sounds like a winner. Dammit another caliber to try. Can it be reloaded using a 223 base plate and 357 dies??

RR, you can use .357 bullets with starline cases because they have thinner necks than other brands. Winchester cases will be to thick in the neck and will require .356 or .355 bullets to chamber. Here is a group of 180 grain .357 hornady XTP pistol bullets fired at 1020 FPS , this was from a ruger bolt action that is suppressed. The base plate will work but I think you’d be ahead of the game to just buy lee 350 legend dies. Midsouthshooters supply has them in stock for $33 and change.

This is a 10 shot group fired at 70 yards.

16 inch??? How's it do with full power loads? Is the factory brass usable for the 357 bullets??
