Just built new .300 Blackout for fall hunting season and hog hunting. For those who have hunted with this caliber, which rounds have you had the most success with at 100 yards and less? Include brand and grain of bullet, what animals you've taken, at what distance the shot was taken, and did the animal drop or run. Thanks to all in advance.

Winchester Deer Season XP 150 grain.

Every one dropped in their tracks. One inch group at 100 yards 9.5 inch barrel. All head shots. Shot between 30 and 120 yards.

I use the Barnes 110 grain black tip for deer. All shots have been under a hundred and twenty yards . Most likely it’s what I’ll use this year as well.

I've been looking at the Winchester XP's and the Barnes. I think the XP's are 40 more grains with 1,900 ft lbs at the barrel vs 2,300+/-? I might try the XP's. Used them in my 6.5 CM last year and didn't have any complaints. Usually in stock at most places.

110gr barnes black tip work great. Shot a few deer with them up to 125 yards and they didn't make it 10 yards.
    Suppressed 11" barrel.

What bbl length do you have? Do you reload? I will get out my records and post. I have been hunting with the Blackout for years and use it in hog control.

Not reloading cuts down your options and ability to taylor a load most accurate for your gun, but I understand many do not reload. 16" bbl: good choice; will give more velocity. 1st choice: Barnes 110gr black tips, exactly what Sawman posted pics of. 2nd choice: Something loaded with Nosler 125gr Ballistic Tip bullets.

26 deer from 20yd to 197yd. Hit in spine or neck, they drop right there. Double lung hit, a few drop right there, but most run 40-50yd before dropping. Heart shot, they often drop right there, but a few have run about 30-40yd.

    4 coyotes from 50 to 120yd. 3 dropped. 1 ran about 20yd.

23 hogs from 15 to 100yd. Hit in head or centered in neck or spine, they drop right there. Hit in the lungs they've went 40-300yd (one went 300...not the best shot by me; most drop in 40-50yd).

171 lb boar, 38yd, Barnes 110gr black tip, shot to the head:

    Lung hit, runs about 300yd:

    Like Bruce sez ^^^^^.
The above pictured load chrono'ed 2380fps out of my RARR and 2368fps out of my H&R Handi Rifle. Haven't tried them out of my Ruger Mini-14 yet. --- SAWMAN
ADDED: Since these bullets will expand "optimally" at such a slow speed, the factory load,or hand loads will allow you to shoot game animals well past 250yds using a 16" bbl.

New here and could not find a search tab to read the posts on the 300 BO. So I'll ask. I have a 30 carbine and 7.62x39 ar pistol. Love both. How do these stack up against the 300 bo? Besides the obvious works good silenced. I also have a pile of questions about reloading I'll save those for another day. Thanks.

I think compared to 7.62 x39 300 Blackout is very similar ballistically I do think that you have a wider variety of projectiles for 300 Blackout then you do v760 by 39 as well as 300 Blackout some more accurate I know I would never even consider using a 30 carbine for hunting anything bigger than a Florida Whitetail but 300 Blackout I wouldn't have any problem using it against Hogs or any any of that

I'll add this (strictly my opinion) if you don't plan on shooting suppressed, there are much better options than .300blk

Think of a .30cal carbine (rifle) round equal to a well loaded 357Mag.
7.62X39 about equal to the 300. 30-30Win is somewhat more powerful . . ESPECIALLY hand loaded.
The 300BLK is a good medium between kill'ability, recoil, and distance from target.
    Is there a better choice . . . maybe ?? --- SAWMAN

I really like that cartridge I have multiple rifles in it. IV load for it and Cass projectiles and have a load worked up using cast bullets that is accurate past a hundred yards and it runs me about 4 cents around to load I think it's a perfect all-around cartridge for this area as there's nothing around here I wouldn't hesitate to hunt with it

So where does it fall in the range of say- 30 cal,7.62x39,30-30, .357 mag? Just trying to get an idea of the relative power of the cartridge. Also, on the cast bullets are they at 1400fps or less? or more? Just a subsonic load? how difficult is reloading this round vs. something simple like the 45 colt? Thanks very much for the education.

I would say it's about a 30-30.I have had no problem reaching 250 yards and have taken quite a few deer out past 150 yards with it.
My cast bullets are subsonic running at 1050ish but they cycle the action. The cartridge is very easy to load for. It does require trimming the case to length but other than that is very similar to a straight wall case (I.E. no lube).
