GEN 1 SIG MCX RIFLE with VIRTUS upgrades!

    text 510508sevenzerosixzero

    $1500

Rifle was born a Gen 1 16" Patrol rifle. Since then I added: Sig M4 stock with removable mag carrier, Midwest Insdustries full length low profile handguard, Geissele SSA-E trigger. Rifle was sent to Sig for BCG recall and trigger adjustment, have not experienced any issues with it. Sent to Sig to get retrofitted with new heavy barrel and tapered lug, now compatible with Virtus barrels! Top rail attachments not included or cost extra.

Yes it is. The piston is contained entirely in the upper receiver. It has the new Gen 2 BCG because the original was recalled by Sig, though I've never had issues with either. There is no buffer tube, the stock is just for support.

I do not, unfortunately, have the handguard and stock. I do have the original trigger, however.

I did some research, and it would appear that the Gen 1 MCX is still compatible with Virtus uppers and later generation barrels, for those who were concerned about that.

Updated to include new heavy barrel installed by Sig in New Hampshire. With new barrel, handguard, stock, trigger, and bolt carrier, pretty much the only original parts are the receivers and grip.

Does it still have the Geissele SSA-E trigger installed?

The geissele trigger is currently installed, I have the original factory trigger as well. Sig took the old parts like barrel and bolt carrier when they replaced them (warranty service).

I know they've been doing the carrier upgrade for free and sometimes would upgrade the original trigger to the match duo for free. Did they charge you to "upgrade" to the virtus barrel?

No, I was not charged for the barrel upgrade because it was covered by the warranty. I test fired and zeroed at 100yds with XM193 and groupings were significantly tighter with the heavy barrel, and obviously will be better with match grade ammo.

Accuracy issues associated with first gen barrels. It is a known issue at Sig and have been remedied in the heavy Virtus barrels. This is separate from the bolt carrier recall from about three years ago.

Interesting. I've had several legacy barrels that shot fine. The virtus barrels, especially on the 16, turn a handy rifle into a bit of a pudge. I've read several owners complain about the virtus being finicky on lighter ammo though I've shot an 11.5" virtus that did just fine with XM193 and some 50gr as well. Did not like 855.

    Best of luck.

The barrel does add about a pound to the overall weight over the legacy barrel. Not all gen 1 rifles are affected but I suppose enough that they did the swap for free.
